Penn is a reach for everyone, but you have above average qualifications and with early decision it greatly improves those chances.

Maybe chance me?

bump 10char

Your stats put your Penn chances at a low reach when applying ED. Your ECs have no focus or astounding qualities.

Above poster doesn’t know what he/she’s talking about.

UPenn - Low Reach

What’s your unweighted GPA? You took a lot of APs but your weighted is still low…
Currently, I’d say Penn is a reach for you. Your test scores are good; ECs are a little school-oriented but still good, but I’m not sure about your GPA.

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1584924-chance-me-penn-ed-ucla-berkeley.html</a></p>

The reason my GPA is so low is because our school still uses A+ which in turn means 4.0 to 4.3 is an A and from 4.3-4.5 is an A+. Honestly, most schools don’t even use A+ anymore so…

For Writing on the SATs, I simply solved thousands of writing questions during my free time. Writing is one of those things where practice actually makes perfect, no matter how corny it sounds. XD

Gpa is rather low, but again, based on your higH school it could be considered high…depends.
If you get all As then you’re good basically.

Good sat and subject tests

ECs are very random, I have no idea what you have a passion for. Seems like every chancing I read has someone creating or founding a club…is this exaggerated? Just wondering because our school is so competitive that every club you can think of have been created like 5 years ago…

But overall, you have a fairly strong application. Although, Wharton is a high reach.
Upenn in General is a reach.

And yes, the writing section requires constant practice. I wouldn’t say do it in your free time all the time because it’s quality over quantity. I suggest you do it with some friends and then alone. Share ideas, etc. I want involved but my friend had a few other friends do it for one afternoon before the SATs and got a 800 and that’s all he did to study.

Good luck to everyone applying!

You have too many ECs with leadership. It looks like you’re trophy collecting.

See: [Case Study 2.mpg - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Most “good ECs” prove extremely mundane in the selective admissions processes, and you’re likely to be forgotten in a huge mess of other students with a few school-related ECs and formal leadership positions. Not sure how you can say with certainty that your essays are good (few applicants completely understand what is being sought) and recommendations are too (unless you saw the latter).

I would say chances are pretty low.

If I hadn’t done any of these “mundane” clubs at my school, I wouldn’t have any extracurricular activities at all. We barely have over 100 seniors this year. That being said, only a handful of students actually engage in extracurriculars. Furthermore, our budget for clubs was cut so some of these clubs aren’t even funded. I did the best that I could with the given resources. My interviewer took note of this and said he’ll explain it in the report.

I think Upenn is a low reach actually, as your academics and ECs are both pretty good.

chance back? Columbia ED Results are around the corner, the last chance?

Well, with only barely 100 seniors, if you want to go to an Ivy, you’ll need to be either the val., sal. or 3-4th in your school.
And again, it’s not BAD if you have only a FEW ECs, just make sure they really are your passion. You have so many leadership positions that they’ll question your commitment. They are also so unrelated and random. For example, you talked about how your clubs aren’t funded…well so aren’t ours, so aren’t most schools. This is no excuse. We just fund ourselves with countless bake sales, charity services, etc raising thousands of dollars for each club. Even our swim team has to fund itself. This takes a lot of time and mathematically, one person cannot dedicate that much time to that many clubs. I hope you were consistent with all of your clubs for all four years…
If you are applying to UPenn Wharton, your chance is slight to none.
If you are applying to UPenn’s other departments, it’ll be a high reach.

Now this isn’t mainly because of your ECs, but your GPA is rather low for 10 AP classes. Your SATs are really good and I hope you did super well on the Bio one, which will help if you do premed.

Thanks for the input guys. BTW, I’m applying to CAS if that helps.
