Chances for UPenn

I should start off with the following:
I am a white female with an extremely stereotypical jewish last name from Long Island.

That probably just blew my chances, but here me out:
-My father and both of my older brothers have attended UPenn, my father went to their med school, my oldest brother graduated wharton, and my other brother is currently an engineering student there.
-I have spent two summers at the Upenn summer studies programs: last year i did the architecture course, and this year I plan to attend the computer animation course (I had previously attended an architecture summer course at a different college).
-I am thus a female attempting to enter a male-dominated profession.
Thats about all I have in "extra" pull. Now for the standards:

1) My gpa is 92.6/100 unweighted - 96 weighted. Our school doesn't rank but we are an extremely competitive public school with around 420 kids in our grade.
AP's:
US, Physics, Bio, Art History, Calc AB, Lit (12), Computer Science, Spanish
Everything else has been honors or art/architecture-related.
2) I am Editor-In-Chief of my school newspaper
3) I am President of my High School Spanish Club
4) I am currently a member of Natoinal Honor Society and applying for an execuitive board position for next year
5) I am currently a member of Natoinal Spanish Honor Society and applying for an execuitive board position for next year
6) I am currently the Web Master of my National Art Honor Society and applying for a higher execuitive member position next year
7) I was once on Team Tutoring
8) I am a member of my High School Art Club
9) I was a member of our HS JV tennis team for two years, captian of JV tennis for one year (and we were #1 in our county all 3 years!!), and will be on varsity next year
10) I have been on JV track & field for 2 years
11) I do regular community Service
12) I am Adept in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, IronCad, basic web design and computer graphics and Have used but am not adept in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Auto CADD.

My other college choices are UConn, George Washington, Boston Univ. U. of Mich, WashU, Cornell, RIT, Syracuse, Union, Carnegia Mellon, Lafayette, Vanderbilt, and U Virginia. Any thoughts?

sats? and your gpa is a little low

Oh! Right, silly me =)
SAT's: 1990 :-/
690 Math
720 Writing
580 Reading
Im hoping to bring it up to around 2100 by raising the reading, but realistically I only think I'll be able to get around 2050.

and SAT II's i got 710 in math IC and i just took the bio today, but I'd assume ill get low 700's as well since I just finished AP bio.

No chance unless you get the SATs to 2100+

you should still apply because you never know.. i know three ppl from my school who applied to upenn and their scores did not exceed past 2000 and they were all accepted.. good luck! =)

Well even as a legacy, and you're not a strong one (grad school and sib) unless your family has given lots of $$. Your scores are low for Penn and very low for a white kid from a LI competitive school at Penn.

Colleges rank you whether your school does or not. They approximated using your school profile and the history with that school.

That said, I'd still apply but Penn makes it clear they want legacies to apply ED.

I agree that your chances at Penn don't look great. If your father or brothers have been heavily involved in the school since they've graduated, however, you've definitely got an honest shot as a student with a strong legacy pull.

Chances on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safey.

University of Pennsylvania... REACH.
University of Connecticut... SAFETY.
George Washington University... GOOD FIT.
Boston University... GOOD FIT.
University of Michigan... SEMI-REACH.
Washington University in St. Louis... REACH.
Cornell University... REACH.
Rochester Institute of Technology... LIKELY.
Syracuse University... LIKELY.
Union College... LIKELY.
Carnegie Mellon University... SEMI-REACH.
Lafayette College... GOOD FIT.
Vanderbilt University...SEMI-REACH.
University of Virginia... SEMI-REACH.

how is 93/100 low? marks are overrated anyways....well if you want to apply then apply its not as if anyone here said no u wont go apply anyway

Thank you all for the responces! I suppose I'll answer them all in one big post and smush them together =)

loslobos71: I'm aiming for that good ol' 2100! If I can get my math up to mid 700's then that would be ideal! It's definintly do-able, it just depends what type of day im having come June 2nd.

sara0023: Thank you, the success stories are very inspiring =)

suze: Oh! Your message reminded me of a lot of things:
My dad is the head-interviewer/coordinator of Long Island and he donates mucho dinero every year. We get gratitude calls constantly thanking him for his gerneous donations... what a sucker my father is.

UPenn only accepted one student this year from my school, and he declined to go to Harvard, but im unaware of how many applied. I know in previous years they've accepted somehwere bettwen 2 and 5 students per year.

Another point you reminded me of: If I do well on my SAT's and do wind up applying to Penn, It would definintly be early decision!

littleathiest: Thank you for the elaborate responce! I had done tours of GW and Syracuse and figured they were more Safety's - but everything else I agree with you on and I thank you for your time in writing that up! It is definintly a helpful guide!

Quantumlight: Haha! Thank you! I do agree with you that Im rather proud of my 93 average, but in comparison to my brothers and to my fellow peers it's not as impressive. My oldest brother had a 97 gps I think, but he was not as well-rounded in his Extra Curriculars. And my other brother (whose in engineering) is just a computer know-it-all. He built my computer when he was 15 and I would never even consider replacing it 3 years later - it's still impresses me how much space and speed this computer has! brothers.... love em and hate em.

Thank you again to everyone! I appreciate your repsonces and all of your input is definitly making a huge impact on my view of college-decisions!!

If your dad is both involved and donates lots of $$, Penn is very wll in your future. Focus on getting the SAT score out of the 500s.

=) sounds like a plan!!

apply to upenn, if you get in then go there. **** everyone who said 1900? you have NO chance. theres no such thing as having no chance at getting into a college. you have good grades, and you have a great legacy. i bet youll get in.

Hahaha. Well, if your father really donates that much... Penn is more of a low reach to high match then. You really should bring up your SAT's though.
