I'm currently a junior at a boarding school in New England. I have a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale and I take an additional course. I'm a day proctor, writer for our school's newspaper, and I run cross-country and do crew. My dream is to get into UPenn because they have an amazing communications program and I've always been intrigued in journalism, especially the political route. My dad went there so I suppose I could play the "legacy card" but I also plan on applying early decision. Is this a crazy idea? My SAT score is pretty low compared to the caliber of most aspiring Ivy Leaguers (1870) but I did receive a 740 on the reading. My math score, 510, was clearly the problem so I'm working on that one.
Please let me know if Upenn is an impossibility for me. I am already cognizant of the fact that it is indeed a reach.
thanks

SAT is way low. 510 is almost unheard of at ivies. Get that up or else, you most likely will not get in.

Even with legacy, your SAT is too low for admission. ECs?
Nice GPA

I agree with Chicago, is there any way to take the tests again? Do you have any AP scores to report (a high Ap score might help a bit).

I know the math is a major problem. Since I’m only a junior I will have two more opportunities to re-take the SAT, I’m hoping that I can get it up to high fives/low sixes range. Math is just not my strong point, as much as I’ve tried its never been. By AP score do you mean for the exams or for the classes in general? Currently I take 3 APs and I have an A average in all of them but I have yet to take the AP exams which will be in April.

whoops…I meant May.

You HAVE to apply ED otherwise Legacy status will be thrown right out the window. But with that score, even your legacy status likely won’t get you in.
