Bump! (10 Characters)

hmm, i don't feel like getting into the whole affirmative action talk because it'll just make me upset that people are waaaay too upset over that subject, so i will address stk2k2's scores. just to be fair.

i think your scores aren't really going to get you into an ivy. realistically. sorry. but i believe if you talk about your past, it will help you. you wrote that your internal and international conflicts held you back... explain about that in your essay. it would be interesting to hear something about that i believe if i were an admissions counselor.

also, i believe your GPA is excellent, but from reading that the valedictorian only got into u of houston, i'm guessing it isn't as competitive as my school (both got into harvard).

so i think you should go for a school who will less likely see that you go to a less competitive school. try a HUGE school like u of michigan-ann arbor/flint and some of the huge systems like University of Wisconsin or University of California.

i would definitely steer you away from smaller schools. smaller schools will closely look at your school profile and be negative about it.

i think your high gpa will help you get into a huge state school.

have you thought about taking the SATs again? or is that not an option.

hope that helped!

oh and i was going to add that you have excellent ECs.

your ECs will help you with writing essays and the sorts, and will make up for your low SAT scores.

i am also a URM, i guess. i'm an asian, but it's rather negative for me.

-hmm...believe it or not, competitiveness in my school is rather relative. Last year's class, to be honest, was not that competitive outside the top 25%.
However, my class works like hell. Even the slackers woke up last year. Pretty much, it is rather unpredictable...

-Actually, i contemplated taking the sat's again...but i think--aside for Rice--its too late to take them.

-The purpose of the Valedictorian story was to explain that numbers alone do not = admission or rejection. Believe me, if he had even one dedicated EC, he would not be where he is....again, the man was a academic powerhouse.

Thnx for the post...good tips!

hmm i think it would've been better if you'd taken the December SATs. it would've helped.

anyways, i think you have awesome ECs just write about them. and your family situation and things and you will be very set to go.

oh and i think if you wanted to apply to maybe University of Wisconsin-Madison/La Crosse/etc. then you should apply soon.

UW-Madison is actually a little higher than NYU on the rankings.

you should look into it!

^^^ Thanx for the tip...but wisconsin? Nah, I'll pass.

Just can't imagine myself being over there...just like I couldn't imagine myself living in TX. lol :D
