Hey,
I've been considering my chances of getting into the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing, and I need you guys' help.
Alright SO, I go to Houston Community College right now, and I know that students who took their prereqs at UT itself are much more competitive. In fact, to even be able to apply to the school of nursing you have to be accepted as a pre-nursing undergrad and take a semester of pre-nursing courses.
My Plan:
I originally thought I could transfer straight to the nursing program but that is not allowed. I'm also learning that the fact that I go to HCC would make it very difficult to get into the program especially if I'm competing with people who took their prereqs at UT.
So far I've completed a majority of my prereqs at HCC but I have this plan to try to finish some of my remaining prereqs at UT Austin to increase my chances of getting into the nursing program. I want to take my chemistry, nutrition, statistics, and developmental psychology there. What I'll do is apply to transfer there for the Spring 2014 semester as a pre-nursing major (I already missed the Fall 2013 deadline), take those classes (chem, nutrition, stats, dev.psych) in the spring, and then in the fall take the required pre-nursing courses and FINALLY apply to nursing school.

Here are my current stats:
-Around 3.4 GPA (will increase as I take more classes, I have another semester here at HCC before I transfer to UT Austin in Spring 2014)
-Grades in science courses are as follows: Biology - B, Microbiology - B, Chemistry - C (took it over the summer but going to retake, hopefully in Austin if I decide to make the move there), Anatomy & Physiology I - A
-The grades in the majority of the rest of my classes such as English have been As except for this C I got in digital art which is not even a prereq I found out
-Worked at a daycare for almost 5 months
-Going to start volunteering at an area hospital this coming semester

I'm trying to decide whether my chances of getting into the UT Austin nursing program are even high enough for me to go and move there and everything. It's a big decision to decide to go there, and I wouldn't risk it if I didn't have a decent chance of getting into the nursing program. Any idea of what kind of a chance I'd have?
