University of Texas - Dallas
Texas Christian University
Southern Methodist University
Texas A&M

--
If it helps any..
Baylor University - Accepted
Tulane University (Personal App.) - Defered

Thanks!!

oh btw, my service ours are actually around 100ish

The only issue I see is you don't really have any leadership, but other than that I think you have good chances at UT Austin, better at A&M and even better at UT Dallas. TCU and SMU, I wouldn't know. All I've heard about them is they're fluff schools.

edit: any reason in particular you like Texas so much? :)

It's okay, I live in Texas. I understand. haha...

You're so in. Those aren't hard schools to get into.

^^ ive always heard really good things about smu. anyways you have a fairly decent shot but keep in mind that the top 10 percent rule complicates things a little bit for oos people. and if you do get into ut and a&m, pick ut! ut pwns a&m

^haha I really appreciate it guys
yea leadership is my weak point -_-

the main reason for Texas is that there's like 8 medical schools there or something, most of then being public. =] ... and tostito's reason too ;]

Btw, I don't even want to get into TCU or SMU.. lol I don't know why I applied. Heard they're big party schools too..

SMU isn't a party school, just a super Republican school. So if you're a big time conservative, then great! If you're not, then ouch. The campus isn't even that pretty either.

haha, UcMichigan, I'm not even sure what I meant.

Personally, I rather like living close to South Padre Island. Except when the crazy drunk spring breakers pass out on the dunes. Naked. And if you're a fan of seasons, I would reconsider Texas. It's one long summer.

According to USNAWP rankings, Texas has some of the cheapest medical schools.

About the top 10%, yeah they do have to admit the top 10%, but personally...70% of the top 10% people I know are applying to private schools, or other state schools. The private high schools are sending about 40% to state schools, most are going private. UT Austin especially is looking to get a cap on the top 10% law, so I'm sure any well-qualified applicants would be welcomed, especially since some of our top 10% isn't nearly as qualified as you.

OOH something else, I think you would know this, but UT and A&M are completely different atmospheres. A&M is very conservative, especially compared to UT Austin.

Anyone can also chance a hypothetical student for UT austin instate application (engineering school)?

4.0UW, 4.35W. top 20% at a competitive public HS
2150 SAT, 750 math IIc, 750 SATII biology
2 APs sophomore year: French literature/language (2 fives)
4 APs junior year: AP stat/bio/english/us history
5 or 6 AP senior year: AP gov/eco, calc BC, Chemistry, english literature AP, music theory AP, and maybe Physics C.

Here is the weak part: close to no ECs
1. 100ish volunteering
2. no leadership position whatsoever
3. JV track

Please chance. Uc Michigan, this applicant somewhat resembles you also: he's asian american!

Any suggestions for improvement would be nice also!

to the op, texas is definitely one of the best states to be in if you wanna go to med school, especially since all of them are public (less expensive), with the exception of baylor (great med school thats not too expensive). but even baylor shows a heavy preference towards texans (i think it's something like 75 % of their admits are from texas). but establishing residence can be sort of tricky, so make sure to get accurate info about that. good luck

lol tostito I didn't know what you meant also haha
but I guess South Padre Island would be a fun vacation spot lol
I'll be the one passing out from too much water haha (the guy who's too scared to drink)

anyways I really, really appreciate what you said. It makes me a bit more optimistic =P
heh, yea I'm not too sure about A&M. I definitely prefer Austin. A&M is just an option, since it's a pretty good public school. If I don't get into Austin, I might go to A&M.. and then transfer? maybe? .. hopefully I won't get killed by Aggies fans there >_<

thanks for your comment hpa10. Baylor definitely looks like a great school, but I think I'll choose a public med school.. cuz once someone become a doctor, it doesn't matter too much which med school he go to =P
Yea, my family realized the issue about getting residency.. So I've been doing some research on it.. if I go to Austin, I'll figure my way with some sort of employment to get residency.

watson, i think your in

ut austin? dude aim higher.!

Yeah, seriously, aim higher. xD But, even though everyone that's in the top ten percent gets in around here, most use those schools as back-ups and don't end up going.

Well, I'm just concerned that my lack of impressing ECs (I don't have leadership, national merit, state orchestra etc...).

And at UT, the college of engineering has only 20% of the places for non top 10% instate students. That's damn competitive for non-top 10% students without amazing ECs.

"ut austin? dude aim higher.!"
Zainuu, are you serious? UT austin is like the top 10 engineering school in the nation (better than Rice, JHU, Columbia, Case Western even some other top tiers schools...)

i agree with watson. UT is a good school and has excellent engineering. also watson, i have really similar stats to the ones you posted, like similar SAT's and weak EC's but i'm in the top 5%. that must be at a really competitive school cuz my gpa is 3.7 uw.
and i just always just assumed i'd get into engineering. so i'm just gonna assume that "hypothetical student" will get in too because his gpa is definitely better than mine.

"that must be at a really competitive school cuz my gpa is 3.7 uw."

Although it does have some reputation to be an elite public school, I really think it is a joke compared to any top foreign education I experienced. The problem is more my Weighted GPA, since my register didn't award honors/AP credit for foreign classes I took in 9th grade.

Wait, should I aim higher? ..or Watson?

You should. You're too awesome. xD

^lol well you're really nice haha
thanks

The teacher who's recommending me told me the same thing. I dunno.. I do kinda think my schools I'm applying to aren't exactly.. Rice.. I guess. But my goal to to become a med doctor, and it'll be easier if I can get good GPAs at easier schools =]
