I know both are reaches but wanted to know exactly how likely i could get in

Applying as a Financial math major to UVA and probably actuarial and financial mathematics to michigan. I think my higher math SAT scores and math courses will help me as I'm applying for a math based major however I'm truly unsure.
My other schools include UMD Lehigh Indiana Rutgers Purdue penn st fordham UF binghamton and stony brook (looking to go into quant finance or hopefully Investment banking through some connections i have). I should be okay for most of these schools but I'm really concerned about UVA and UMich. I would love to go to either one but ik how difficult it is to get in

UMich is a reach for you. They do put emphasis on GPA. 21% of the enrolled freshmen this year had 4.0 in HS GPA. That means straight A for all 4 years.

1939er don’t hurt me. ASo are u saying private schools would be cheaper than oos public schools (besides mich and uva the total prices of all my state schools are under 45k)? bc thats not true at all as most private schools have titans around 45k. I mean based on previous applicants of my hs and there admissions results all the schools I said I’m ok for i am in good shape as target schools. Gotten fee waivers from all except lehigh not that this means a whole lot but that they have asked me to apply ( i don’t think they would send them to kids they consider “not okay”. Kids from my hs have gotten into all those schools with lower gpa’s and SAT scores

I did not apply for any fee waivers at all i won’t be getting any need based money i can tell you that. Also i didn’t say the fee waivers were showing i would get merit from these schools, just that they at least verify i am a match to apply for these schools. And yes ik the exact GPA and SAT scores for students from my hs admitted and rejected into every school I’m applying to. UVA and umich have much less applicants than the others so harder to tell but I’m in the same ballpark even higher than some in terms of SAT but obviously my gpa isn’t as high (why i consider them reaches of course). I wasn’t asking for chances of those schools, u just kind of shot me down saying i wouldn’t get into any except rutgers and should redo my whole list. Read title of post

1939er I do not see why you had to be so rude. You could have said UVA and Umich were significant reaches in a much more friendly manner. Anyway, julian your GPA is definitely holding you back but your SAT is pretty solid for UVA and Umich. They would both definitely be reaches but, at least in my school, UVA has a trend of focusing quite a bit on the SAT - students in my school have access to the statistics of their acceptances and there is a pretty solid correlation between SAT scores and acceptances. Umich seems to focus a bit more on the GPA so I wouldn’t put money on getting into Umich Also keep in mind that the SAT 2 Math test is actually easier to score highly on as it’s curve is much more forgiving than the SAT 1 Math test - don’t even bother with the SAT 1 if you are confident in your math skills.

All in all I think UVA is a low/mid reach and Umich is a mid/high reach

I am in a similar situation with a 3.65 gpa and a 2050 SAT;however, I am a national level chess player and have repped my country. Can you divulge more into your lacrosse accomplishments? Strong ECs could really help you and lacrosse is quite novel!

1939er So every school i mentioned you know for sure is doing this? I’m honestly right in with all the schools when i compare my stats to other kids in my hs of previous years who have gotten in. Not sure if you have ever heard or used naviance, but it gives u the exact stats from all applicants to each school within the last five years. and any of them that i am below the gpa by a little, i have much higher SAT. Never said i was a lock for these schools just targets. Maybe they regard my hs highly I’m not sure tbh

1939er, The only ones i would consider safeties are routers and stony brook, but i feel the rest are good matches. i feel very confident about my essays i had help from my aunt (creative writing major at nyu lol) and my english teacher was very impressed but i guess everyone has great essays and idk how much impact they truly have

kinaralah, thank you for the input and support i suppose haha. Not many accomplishments in lacrosse, unfortunately broke my collarbone last year mid season so that killed my shot at any honors but I did serve as team captain.

1939er, Met with the heads of the math departments at fordham uva and umd and it went very well i thought. Visited these there schools as well. plan on visiting more as i apply its just a crazy time right now. I

1939er do u have any private school suggestions considering my major and hs credentials?
