In-state
Applying early to UVA-- but not W&M because it’s binding
4.15 GPA
ranked 3rd out of 60
have taken every honors course (10 total) offered by my school except 2 math courses (school doesn’t offer AP/IB)
lots of extracurriculars- 2 varsity sports all years, started 2 clubs, won international photo contest, drama, India service trip where I helped build greenhouse for a remote mountain village
Legacy at both UVA and W&M
new SAT score 1300 (retaking in time for early admission application)
Know my SAT score is low. Only excuse is that I tested while recovering from ACL/meniscus surgery
Am already working on essays so they can be as strong as possible
Any thoughts?
Also, I’ve also been in National Junior Honor Society since the earliest time I could be eligible, in 10th grade. Have been a tour guide for new families at my school, and got a 600 on a SAT II test.
I’m also looking at Wake Forest, Va Tech, UCLA, and Duke. UVA is my first choice and the others vary in acceptance rates and in what I’m looking for (public policy and science). Can anyone chance me for UVA and some of the others?
Have you looked at Davidson? They place considerable weight on GPA, don’t care as much about ACT/SAT. very good school!
Yes, other people have also recommended Davidson. I think I will add that to my tour list. Thank you.
@ParkAvenue My daughter is also in-state and will be applying to UVA. Looking at the Naviance data for her high school, there was a very clear pattern in the SAT vs GPA plot. Above a certain high GPA, virtually everybody from her HS in the past 5 years was admitted. SAT score was almost irrelevant…plenty of students admitted with your score (scaled to 1600). If you have access to Naviance, take a look and determine where you are. That data might be more useful than random opinions.
