Chances for UVA?

I'm a junior from Southwest Virginia. My high school is very small (<500 students), and only 3 people from my school have gone to UVA in the past five or six years.

SAT: 1990 (710 W, 670 CR, 610 M), but I am taking it again in May
UW GPA: 4.0 (higher weighted, but I don't know the exact number)
As of now, I should be 1st or 2nd in my class

scholastic bowl team (made it to regionals 2 years in a row now)

varsity tennis (went to regionals last year, should this year as well)

FBLA

Key Club

Beta Club

plan to play varsity golf senior year

JV basketball freshman year

Also, my SAT score is the highest anyone in my school has ever had.

Not a lot of ECs, but I'm in every club my school offers except yearbook. I'm taking (or going to take) every Dual Enrollment class my school offers, and I should be able to take 2 AP classes online.

I am afraid the high school I attend will prevent me from going to my dream school.

No, your high school will not prevent you from attending UVA; if you lived in NOVA, though, then they would ask a higher SAT score from you.

UVA: Match

I’m inclined to agree with Catria. The very fact that your school has sent so few to Charlottesville, plus the things you’ve accomplished/are accomplishing there, should really work in your favor. Best of luck!

Again agree with both, you have a great chance getting into UVA. Your stats are good and you will be so welcome at UVA. I hope Blueiguana can give us some input. She is well versed with UVA admission criteria.

You have some very good chances, but don’t limit yourself to just your school, i agree with what you’re thinking, by not going to a larger school its hard to see how you compare to other students. At my school, the average PSAT test score is around 1700, so even though your SAT score is already pretty good, in comparison it may seem a little weaker.

My advice is to continue doing what you’re doing but not limit yourself to just your school. Hope this helps! :)

My son is also interested in UVA, with very similar stats. However, he is from PA.

How much higher do the stats have to be for an out of state acceptance?

edit to add no hooks for my son.

Very difficult for OOS with those stats. UVA has become a safety school for IVY league caliber applicants. UVA likes OOS so it doesn’t hurt to apply.

You are an easy in at UVirginia.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by that.

The ratio of OoS students to in-state is a fixed number.

You have a great score, but a little higher can’t hurt!! You look good otherwise, best of luck!
Chance me back maybe?
