GPA - 3.3

ECs - National Honors Society, Pro Merito Society, AP Scholar, Boys State 2008, Year of full-time AmeriCorps service, Played football for three years (won state championship senior year).

Any thoughts? Would really appreciate some insight

I could have very good peer reviews and letters of recommendation. I also worked a 20 hour a week job throughout Junior/Senior year. I'm from a very low-income family.

Why anyone would wanna come from the Pacific NW over here to PA to go to Bucknell or PSU is beyond me, man. UW is sweet. I assume you’re from WA cause of your name.

But anywayyy

UVM-solid
PSU-High Match(heavy gpa focus)
UW-solid
Bucknell-I’d say high match, they’re notorious for being sort of a selective crapshoot.

Yeah I mean high match as in it’s no sure thing, but I’d bet you get in. the only reason I say high instead of just a solid match is because PSU likes high GPAs. it’s 2/3 of their admission process apparently.

For what it’s worth: on the PSU bubble chart, it shows they would like a 3.5-3.6 GPA to go along with 2150 SATs. I asked about letters of recommendation and I was told not to send them, as they don’t look at them.

Does anyone know if UVM, UW, and Bucknell take recs/reviews seriously?

edit:

This is weird. Bucknell, according to just about everyone, is harder to get into than PSU. However, PSU really only looks at GPA/SAT/ACT, while Bucknell actually takes character/work experience/volunteer work/recommendations seriously. Because of all of those things, I could actually get into Bucknell and turned down at PSU. Heh.

yeah, Bucknell takes recommendations, extracurriculars, community service, and and all of that other stuff seriously but they also take GPA/SAT/ACT really seriously, too. Personally, I don’t think that it would make sense to get into Bucknell and not PSU. But you never know, I guess.

PSU does not need 2150 SAT’s unless you are looking at Shreyers…about 1300 (M + CR) and GPA>3.5 should do it…maybe out of state requires higher. Because of the high number of applicants it is pretty much GPA/SAT oriented. For Shreyers, you need higher GPA/SAT in addition to EC’s, essays, recs, etc

Bucknell is harder to get into than PSU unless again you want Shreyers

I wouldn’t have the ability to play D1 football.

As of right now I have a 2080 SAT, but fully expect to get a 2150 or better the second time around. I’m also planning on adding an additional 200 hours of community service during this year off. What else can I do to improve my chances for Bucknell?
