My brother is currently a sophomore at vandy and I LOVE the school. I really want to go there and have flirted with applying early decision to increase my chances. However I am afraid that since I haven't spent much time looking at other schools I might want to apply several places and make my decision later. I don't want to end up regretting Vandy and being locked into it. So I'm basically asking if you think my chances are good enough to apply RD or if I should stay on the safe side and apply ED?

I have a cousin who got into Vandy with less impressive stats than that. You definitely have a good chance, especially if you apply ED. However, I would say you need to do something with this summer. Take a class (even summer@brown still has open admission!), get a job, etc. because you don’t have a lot in your past summer/this summer.

Also, be able to explain why you quit ballet other than “it was too much time” or “i didn’t like my teacher” (even though in the real world those are valid reasons!)

I would say definitely look into similiar colleges (NYU, USC, UVA, G-town, etc.) Try to look at them without bias, (get there this summer if possible) and then decide if you still love Vandy the most. I would say you have a really good shot ED, and a reasonable shot RD (great grades/scores, but no significant ECs)

I probably don’t know any more than you, but that’s my two cents :)

Thanks I chanced you back

Please anyone let me know what you think. Any feedback would be awesome, and I promise I will chance you back.

First of all, Vanderbilt is a great university in a exciting city. I think you have a very high chance of getting in. If Vanderbilt is your first choice, then I would apply ED. GOOD LUCK!!

Go to vandy. Great university

Applying Ed will help and though grades are good, maybe you want to re-take SAT/ACT? Either way they are ok scores and prob. won’t work against you or only a little. ECs aren’t spectacular, but probably sufficient enough to make you a good candidate for Vandy. Good luck.

Umm well I would say you have about a 50-50 RD and a little bit higher ED.
Your test scores are average for Vandy
I think your GPA is higher than average for Vandy
Your EC’s are weak for Vandy
Your Sibling legacy will help.
So you’re going to have 6 AP’s and 8 Honors classes, that doesn’t really help. If your school only offers 6-8 APs then you have fantastic course rigor, however, if they offer 16 APs, your course rigor is only average. It all depends on what your school offers.
If you write a good essay and get good recs, you could probably get in RD, but it’s not a gurantee. Also, where do you live? If you live in Tennessee that could hurt you, but if you live in a state where Vandy doesn’t get a large amount of applicants from, that could work in your favor.

Thanks so much! I go to a small but really well thought of catholic school in missouri. I have taken every honors and ap class available and I chose Latin as my foreign language if that makes a difference. Also I’m planning on writing my essay about quitting ballet and explaining my lack of ecs.

Oh and I also won the smith alumnae book award at my school if that even matters

I think that you have a great shot of getting in, and if you apply ED your chances are even better!

Chance me back!!

My sister applied there, regular decision, with a 1950 SAT and top 10% of her class with a 3.7 GPA. She got wait listed. This really sets it into perspective for you, since you have much better SATs and GPA. Though she did a ton of community service and was going through EMT Basic Training (which def helped her). But if you apply ED, you have a great shot to get in there! Plus, if you dont need financial aid, it may edge you closer.
