I'm currently a Junior and I really really want to go to Vanderbilt University, but I don't know if I will be accepted or not. What are my chances if...
I have a 4.6 weighted, 4.0 gpa
honors/APs
in at least 7-8 clubs, outside community service
Had a brother who went to vandy
(does ethnicity place a part, if so, im middle eastern)
i live in-state
gov school
im considering early decision

...but this is where it gets sad, I took the ACT in oct, got a 26 :/ not impressed. i took it again in mar and got a 25! I am sooooooooooooooooooo disappointed in myself. I literally feel crushed right now. However, I plan to take it again in sep and oct of my senior year and i am determined to bring it up by at least 4 points! Plan on taking the SAT in the summer

So, any words of advice?

Your GPA is great and your extracurriculars seem solid, but that ACT will kill you. As long as you’re retaking, perhaps enroll in a prep course.

Overall, I’d say it’s a low to mid reach for you right now; your SAT is going to be crucial here. Good luck!

Chance me for several schools? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118399-chance-theatre-acting-inclined-junior-ill-chance-you-back.html#post12333784

Thanks for the advice? Do you happen to know of a good prep course/books?

SparkNotes and Princeton Review do good ones, as well as the ACT governing body themselves. I didn’t prep for mine, but those are some of the ones my friends used.

I should also mention that I am 6th in my class (out of about 400)

unfortunately they are

certainly :)

I just discovered that I was accepted into Vanderbilt. I am president of numerous clubs, an active member on the speech, drama, debate team, and I was a short-term foreign exchange student. All A’s… I actually got lucky on the ACT and received a 30… I took it again and received a 26… I feel your pain. Just keep taking it and make sure you do well on the SAT. I didn’t do as well as I would have liked on the SAT either but when I took the separate subject tests, I did really well and that helped me a lot. Also, the critical reading section was my lowest score, but I received a 5 on the AP test, so that helped. I just worked really hard to make sure that i had a variety of test scores the admissions board could evaluate

First, congrants on being accepted into vandy!

Thanks for your advice, based on how i do on the sat, i will try to do at least three subject tests
