Chances for Vassar or Claremont Mckenna?

<p>Hey Everyone. I'm going to apply ED to Vassar, my dream school. My next top choice is CMC.</p>

<p>I know my test scores suck, but i'm retaking it.</p>

<p>School info:
Public school in Chicago suburbs
160/750
top 25%</p>

<p>SAT CR: 600
R: 600
W: 640
Unweighted GPA: 3.8</p>

<p>APs taken junior year: US History, Bio, English</p>

<p>Senior year AP's: Literature, Calc, Psych, Euro
I've taken all honors classes since Freshman year as well. I've goten mostly A's with a couple B's scattered here and there. I have been on High Honor Roll every year.</p>

<p>Extracurriculars: Mock Trial (I will be captain this coming year), softball for two years, choir, Newspaper writer, youth group, NHS, Anti-drug club, Relay for Life participant, Spanish Club</p>

<p>Leadership Oppurtunities:
Teach fourth graders at my synagogue for 5 years.
2nd place in state for mock trial
Campaigned for political leaders in my state
Lead educational group at synogogue
Honor Society all three years</p>

<p>Community Service:
Soup Kitchen
Helped children in Costa Rica sophomore year
Worked at an elephant conservation center in Laos this past summer </p>

<p>So yeah, I need to up my test scores, but I'm a good writer so i'm not that worried about the essay part. I'm hoping to really be able to emphisize who I am and why I should be admitted.<br>

<p>Don’t know much about Vassar but as you say, your test scores are killing you, they’re below the 25th%-tile at both schools. </p>

<p>We did the tour at CMC earlier this year and a few things came out loud and clear: 1) very competitive place both getting in (17% admit rate) and once you’re there; 2) they are big into leadership. not just ECs but giving examples of how you were a leader within the group; 3) the admissions presentation was very “what-makes-you-think-you’re-good-enough-to come-here”, a little obnoxious, but refreshing in its way. Son2 liked CMC but didn’t love it; it felt small even with the other consortium schools right there, (as my son put it, “It feels like high school on steroids” - I thought that was a good description). </p>

<p>All that said, I think CMC is a reach. A great essay on leadership will help.</p>

<p>Right, your test scores will hurt a lot. Except for that, you have a stellar application. Other than that, get good recommendations and write a good essay. You have a good shot, in my opinion. Good luck.</p>
