Piano-8 years. I scored a 100 at the NYSSMA evaluation. I also placed 2nd in the Young Musician's Competition and I perform annually at Steinway hall in Manhattan.

Additional Info: I'm white, female, and go to an extremely competitive school in Manhattan where all the classes are really high leve.

Oh, almost forgot. I also got gold medal status in the National spanish examination.
In terms of courseload I already took AP Biology, AP US History, AP Spanish Language and AP European History, and got 5's on all the exams. For senior year I plan to take 3 more APs. (My school has a limit on the number of APs one can take per year).

I’m sure you realize you have great stats and ECs. I’m sure you also realize that there are lots of girls from competitive NYC high schools with similar stats. Heck, there were at least 50 girls from my daughter’s senior class (large suburb in the Northeast) with similar or better stats and ECs. Vassar will get a lot of applications from girls who look pretty equivalent. If Vassar is your first choice, you need to show them why they should accept you. Apply ED, write a great essay, submit a My Space that really showcases you, … Convince Vassar that you will be thrilled to attend if admitted.

Of course, all the above only applies if you really are convinced Vassar is the one. If Vassar is one of several colleges you’re interested in, you’ll end up in the regular decision pool - competing with lots of similar applicants. According to the standard stats, Vassar should be a match/safety for you. Unfortunately, based on the demographics it’s more probably a low reach if you apply regular decision.

I agree based on experience at my daughter’s large, competitive, NYC school. Since you do not seem to have a hook, Vassar needs to be convinced that they are your top choice and ED is the most obvious way to do that. Otherwise you could be waitlisted even with these great stats.

Immigrant from where? From Vassar’s perspective, your cultural/ethnic status is only interesting if you’re from an under represented minority. Being a first generation immigrant from Latin America or Africa would be a ‘hook’. First generation immigrant from Asia or Europe - not so much.
