<p>In order have a more well rounded student body Duke has made more of an effort to admit students with an artistic background. There was an article about it in the Fall 2005 Alumni magazine by the director of Admissions. </p>
<p>Here is what admissions said in 2006 about the viewbook for prospective stuents:</p>
<p>“Space that we’ve devoted to the arts has at least doubled–we’re trying to see where we’re trying to expand.”</p>
<p>In addition there is a newly upgraded position created in June 2007 - Vice Provost for the Arts. Here is what the website says:</p>

<p>The Vice Provost for the Arts works to realize Duke’s strategic plan initiatives in the arts. These include developing and strengthening the arts at Duke; integrating them more fully into the academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular life of the university; and promoting greater collaboration among arts organizations at Duke as well as with arts organizations in the community. The Vice Provost for the Arts works closely with the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the Dean of Humanities. The Vice Provost for the Arts is an ex officio member of Duke’s Council for the Arts and works closely with that body.</p>
<p>Your daughter should visit the school and decide if it fits her personality. As you can tell by the second comment most people do not know about Duke’s strategic plan for the arts.</p>
