Chances for Wellesley please? (already applied)

Hi everyone! I was wondering what my chances are now that I've applied. I have interviewed with an alum in my country (India). I also submitted an additional essay on classical dance. Thing is, I'm an international applicant needing loads and loads of fin. aid and that's a very worrying factor. Wellesley's right on the top of my list with Princeton (Princeton and Wellesley are my two top choices, yes I know different combination:D).

wow! i’d say you’re basically in!
you look like a very well rounded applicant!

Much stronger than I am and I was likely-ed EE :)

I don’t know how competitive it is for internationals but I do think you have a strong shot :)

Hey, thanks for posting your opinions CPUscientist3000 (hi again!) and kenzie1992 9congrats on your Likely btw!) :). I hope you have chanced me keeping in mind that Wellesley is “need aware” for international students which means that the rate of acceptance is a lot lesser! Plus I’m from India, which means that I’m going to be facing a lot of competition from my country as there are a lot of very competitive applicants down here. Add to that the fact that Wellesley would probably not be able to accept too many students from the same country, and you get why I feel as hysterical about my chances as I probably sound in this post.
Sorry for the rant haha.
Thanks again! :)

you’re in :D

hey thanks for sharing your opinion via!
i hope the adcoms share the same line of thought! :D

Just in case anyone later looking at chance threads is interested, I got rejected.

I’m so sorry GarfieldGirl! ) : But hey, you’ve still got Princeton to hear from! Your application seems so impressive; maybe Wellesley just can’t afford all the financial aid. Good luck to you.

Sigh, I empathize GarfieldGirl. Fellow aid-seeking(LOTs of aid, almost full) Indian with somewhat similar profile here. Just got rejected.

And yep, I think we should keep our stats posted just to tell posterity that getting in isn’t as easy for poor internationals as American applicants make it look! I was quite confused during the college searching process by who gave a lot of aid and who didn’t. We usually just see the page for the domestic students first and jump to wrong conclusions sometimes. Ah well, waiting on Amherst, etc. and preparing myself for law school in India at the same time.

I’m sorry this one hasn’t worked out for you guys. Wish you all the best in your college search.

GarfieldGirl and tiyas, I’m surprised you girls got rejected. The admissions process is so strange these days; you really never know what to expect. In fact, after reading your stats, I’m feeling slightly nervous about what my decision is going to be like in a few days (ahhh…it’s somewhere in the mail…). If it makes you feel better, consider Wellesley as a party school with girls who just waste their time with Harvard guys. hahahahahahahahahhahaahahah. you’re better than that. jk. ;)

@ tiyas: good luck for your exams! aren’t there pre-boards or something coming up soon? well, anyway, good luck for those law school exams!

Thanks everyone! I guess I sounded a bit bitter in my last post. Being statistically above average probably doesn’t get you into a school like Wellesley(all about “fit”, but da*n, I thought I fit there). There must have been something the adcom didn’t see in us. Ah well, life goes on. Thanks for the support. :)

LOL referee.
And how in the world do you know about pre boards?
Our finals (boards) are over (ended just a few days back! freedom! :D)

Tbh I am quite disappointed to say the least. It’s just so weird to know that you did such a lot, (I even had a bit of contact with the office), and I felt it was just a perfect fit, and now it’s all over. :/

Thanks for the support though shay (Hi! And I’m surprised that you remember about Princeton!:)), referee, and tiyas (I feel your pain.) I shall let you all know how it went for me. :)

@garfieldgirl, I have family in India so every time I call, someone is taking some exam and someone else is taking another exam and there are all these preboards/boards/rankings/entrance exams discussions in my family so I pick up a few things here and there. I must admit that Indian students have way more stress than we do here when it comes to applying to college. Good luck!! :)

Guys…I got into Mt Holyoke but waitlisted at Bryn Mawr…should I lose a bit of my optimism for Wellesley?

oh hey, I got into Harvard, Princeton and UPenn!
So people should still hope!

I’m still slightly resentful/disappointed that W didn’t accept me, because I really really liked the school…but well, that’s the randomness of admissions I guess!

Good luck all, and if I decide on Harvard, then I might meet some of you at CAMBRIDGE!

Harvard! And Princeton! That’s awesome! I’m so happy for you.

See, it was probably a matter of financial aid.

To go off on a mini tangent, as much as we all love Wellesley, HYP just has that fame and wonder associated with it. Today one person in my high school got into Harvard (one person got into Harvard last year too) and the entire school is buzzing. I was a little confused by it at first, probably because here on CC there are people who care greatly about the quality of schools and not the prestige who may choose other schools over HYP (or the other Ivy Leagues), but right now I’m really… seeing the wonder Harvard elicits from the average person. Getting in was no easy task, of course! You deserve it.

You and your family must be psyched right now. Good luck!

I have heard it said that there are not many people that turn down Harvard.
