Chances for Wesleyan, Colby, Kenyon. Will chance back!

<p>A bit of a repost, but I really need to know my chances for these three. Apologies to those who have seen this before. I will chance back if you want!</p>

<p>SAT I *: First time 2110 (680 M 700 W 730 CR); Second time 2150 (770 M 710 W 670 CR) ; **2210 Superscore 770 730 710; CR+M 1500 *
**SAT II
: BioE 780, Japanese with Listening 670, MathII 690 (Taken with scientific calculator)</p>

<p>16 years old, just graduated. I am a US citizen living in India.
IGCSE=10th, AS=11th, A=12th. I would tentatively say an A in A levels is a (5) on an AP test and a B is a (4). College credits received for both.
Note that in the CIE system, the grades are equivalent to one higher in the US system. So my D in AS is about a C in the US system.</p>

<p>IGCSE's: A<em>A</em>A<em>A</em>A*AAA
AS Levels: ABBCD
A- Level's predicted: AAAB
Class size 12. No official rank, but I'm maybe the second in my class. #1 doesn't even show up to school. </p>

<p>EC's: My school has no clubs and does not offer sports after 10th grade.
Published in my national school newsletter.
12,000+ views on my poetry and prose on DeviantArt.
Selected to give a speech to the graduating 10th and 12th graders.
Member of a 2nd place team of three in a citywide science and math competition while in 9th grade. (we beat 78 other teams from 40 schools)
Interschool swimming and track/field awards.
I ran a triathlon in 11th and came 4th place in my category.
I'm a semi-regular rock climber.
** NO VOLUNTEER WORK **
** Essays:** Anywhere from great to Pulitzer-worthy. Mainly focusing on the trauma and changed perspectives of moving to a third-world country and how it's shaped my life. Very metaphorical; my writing style may be slightly unique.
Recommendation Letters: One from my English teacher and one from Biology. Both decent, but a lot of it may be perceived as standard filler for a bright student. There are some good bits though. Counselor rec is nearly total filler.
** Income Bracket:** ~60k, headed by single parent, family of 4. I need aid.
** Ethnicity: ** Indian-American male</p>

<p>I speak English, French, Japanese, Hindi, and Marathi.
I taught myself Japanese in a year without using textbooks and then gave the SATII exam. I messed it up slightly, though. I've also passed the JLPT N4 and recently gave the N3. I informally teach English to native Japanese friends of mine over Skype.
I'm writing a fiction novel and intend to publish within two years.
I know HTML and I'm now teaching myself JavaScript and then C++/Ruby.</p>

<p>Wesleyan, Colby, Kenyon all RD.
Undecided major: I'm torn between Biology/Physics and Film Studies/Creative Writing. May double major.
I'm also sending in an extra creative writing supplement for Wesleyan. Its...different. I highly doubt it's been seen before.</p>

<p>I'm also having a little difficult finding a suitable safety school, so if anyone could give me some tailored suggestions, I would be very grateful.</p>

<p>I think that your ECs are excellent! Your scores are also really good :slight_smile: The only problem I see is no volunteer work and that can be perceived negatively by some schools. Regardless, I think all of them are low reach to high match :slight_smile: Good luck! Chance back? <a href=“Chance me for Vassar I'll chance back :) - Vassar College - College Confidential Forums”>Chance me for Vassar I'll chance back :) - Vassar College - College Confidential Forums;

<p>@12345n‌ Thank you! Do you have any suggestions for safeties? Right now I have UCSC and UMiami, but am looking to add a third one.</p>

<p>YUP  I think you can include sarah lawrence and fordham as safeties (you could also get merit scholarships)</p>

<p>bump</p>

<p>YOU KNOW 5 LANGUAGES!! that’s amazing! the no volunteer work could be an issue, otherwise you’re set!</p>

<p>You distinguish yourself definitely
Now you need luck </p>

<p>Your’e definitely a qualified applicant. Almost all are matches to low reaches.
Chance back-<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1724529-interview-preparation-and-affect-on-chances.html#latest”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1724529-interview-preparation-and-affect-on-chances.html#latest&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>So I don’t know very much about Liberal Arts schools so if I were to chance you I would be basically guessing. Anyway, Ill review your app as a whole. I think some of your ecs seem very cool, but also lack a long length of commitment. Your SAT’s seem good, but then again Im not familiar with the 25th-75th SAT percentiles at these schools. Also, its slightly hard for me to tell this as well, but your grades seem a tad low, but I might be wrong. I don’t think that not having volunteer work will hurt you and the quality of your essays will definitely be helpful. Lastly, you seem quite unique, so thats always good. Anyway, sorry I didn’t know these schools as well, but best of luck.</p>

Thank you for chancing mine!

Your application is very good. Your EC’s are excellent! However, maybe volunteering will help but you’re definitely good for all three universities. I agree with Mike1535. All should be Match.

Good luck!! I wish you success in the future

I don’t think these schools are need-blind (correct me if I’m wrong) plus international is tough. However, stats certainly put you in range and ECs are unique. Your essays sound great too, I think you have good chances!

@dadunda actually I’ll be considered as a national

You’re a US citizen, so you go into the “domestic applicant” pile, so that’s a plus.
Your SAT’s are in line with Wes and a bit above the line for Colby and Kenyon, so that’s a plus.
I think it’s going to come down to two things:

  1. The reputation of your school (given that the class is only 12 students and as you said the #1 kid does not even show up to class, it’s likely that your school will be viewed as not being particularly rigorous.).
  2. Your ECs are undistinguished – this will be a problem for these schools as you have picked colleges that are renowned for looking at the “soft” elements of the application.

Given your interests, also consider applying to Brandeis, Connecticut College, Colgate, Vassar, Hamilton.

Safety schools: Perhaps University of Hartford, Lafayette.

Even after some research, I can’t give you a definite answer for your chances. I hadn’t even heard of Colby or Kenyon before this, but I think your stats indicate that you’re a decent candidate. Majority are High Match/Low Reach.

Congrats on your scores and your achievements. I wish you the best in your admission decisions.

Think you could get into all these schools! Match for Colby and Kenyon. Not sure about Wesleyan because it is slightly more selective, but would not be surprised if you got accepted! Good luck!

You will totally get in. Those LACs will eat you up! You know five languages for God sakes.

@stl63139‌ well thanks for cheering me up! But my grades are pretty bad, I suspect it’s gonna be a crapshoot.

All matches. Kenyon in particular is a low match if you’re as good a writer as you say. They have a top writing program and value it a lot, even if it’s not necessarily your major.
