My friend asked me yesterday to put his chances up for wharton. i think his chances are slim, but he has a huge hook.

recs: solid

ECs

President of Jazz Band

Jv tennis 10
Varsity Lacrosse Manager 11??
Leadership in the business world west at Wharton. (this is the hook he has)
(LBW greatly improves his chances (if any), the past year 47 out of sixty students applied ED to wharton and 38 got in, so can you chance him taking into consideration this hook?)

He has almost no chance at Wharton; almost every aspect of his application is weak - from his GPA to his test scores to his extracurriculars. As great as the attrition rates for LBW might be, they cannot possibly compensate for a 1780/22.

Agree. With that SAT and ACT, he probably won’t be seriously considered, meaning they may automatically put him in the reject pile without even looking at essays, recs, ECs, etc.

I don’t want to be pessimistic here, but it aint happenin. A 2250+ SAT/34+ACT would help substantially. However, given his current scores, I don’t think that can happen. LBW probably is a good EC, but I doubt it’s a major hook.

If that was a huge hook, then a lot more people would be attending that program, but i don’t think that is a hook big enough to compensate for the low test scores. He might have a chance though if he raises his score.
