Chances for Wharton? :)

Hi,
I'm an indian living in Mexico and I'm currently a junior. I would like to apply ED for Huntsman this year.
I currently have a GPA of 96/100
I'm in the top 10%
I've a DELF B2, I'm fluent in spanish, english and I also speak Tamil (Indian language). Next year I'll be learning german.
I'm in the debate team. I was volunteer at an art museum here for about 3 years, I did community service for 100 hours. I used to be in Math and History club and I've presented national level exams in Maths and History. I've had one of the best grades in the state and I was valedictorian when I finished 9th grade (in mexico you finish your secondary school). I've been in the robotics team and we competed in the First Robotics competition in Houston.
Next year I have possibilities of being president of the student council and I'll be applying for an internship in one of the most recognized companies in Mexico.
Regarding sports, I've been in my school's soccer team for about 6 years and I also used to play basketball for 4 years.
If it counts I maintain a blog since I'm 9 years old.
I know it's not much, but what do you think?
Also if you know info about Huntsman Program, it'ld be great!!

Go ahead and apply dude! You have great credentials but I’m not sure how they pan out for a business school. Lots of leadership EC’s and being class president would help a ton.

oohh thank youuu. I’m really nervous because I really want to get into UPenn!!

Wharton: Reach
UPenn (Non-Wharton): Low-range

Nothing really stands out to me on your resume, and if you are looking to go to the Wharton school at UPenn, you really need to be business-oriented.
Moreover, since you are an international applicant, Wharton looks for practically geniuses or students that have already entered the business world.

Why are you applying to Wharton? Is it because of the name or because you think you’re truly one of the next biggest businessmen in the world? I have a cousin who got into Wharton and what sealed the deal for him was the fact that he had made a multi-million dollar business as a high schooler; clearly you can see that he had enormous potential, but I don’t really see that in you.

Good luck with your admissions, but I feel like you are reaching too high.

Well yeah, I’m really interested in business, mainly international business. Well and I really think I have potential one of my plus points is that I speak 4 languages fluently and I’ll be learning another one this year… and I’m somehow into our family business.

bump bumppp

I think you have a shot but not a super great one because its a crapshoot. Whats ur sat? Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508365-wharton-cornell-ed-others.html

Ill out a number on it based on my complex logarithm. There’s a 96.9 percent chance you are rejected by Wharton. Sure you can speak more than one language and you have proven yourself smart, but we are talking about the best business school in the world. You have already been rejected, even before you applied. Go to a more modest school and you can go to Wharton for a MBA or something

First of all, business extracurriculars are not required to get into Wharton. Like any school, Wharton wants to see diversity, so think about what you can do to set yourself apart from other people. Emphasize your diversity on your apps.

So as for your chances. As many say, UPenn, wharton, huntsman are all extremely tough, so it’s hard to say. But you definitely have a shot as much as anyone else. At this point (assuming you’re going to be a senior), just enjoy your last year and pursue your passions. That’s what schools like to see the most in terms of activities, passion.

Btw, I’m targeting german next year!

oohh well let’s see what happens!!
That’s great akicker! I’ll start learning it in september I think, but I think I’ll be targeting portuguese!

The “subjective” parts of your application seem good, but you don’t have any scores or more internationally recognizable achievements that would make Wharton want you, especially as an int’l.

Do you know how you will do SAT Subject Tests, TOEFL, etc.?

My Sat subject scores should be pretty decent around 750… and Toefl too I guess around 100-110 ibt, and sat should be around 2200, next week I’ll be taking the sat subjects and in november the sat, I just got one chance cause I want to apply ED for Huntsman :)

Oh I forgot, the fact is that here in my city in Mexico there aren’t too many chances for participating into major/recognized competitions or so  but I’m really really keen in getting into UPenn

I think you may have a convincing case for getting into top American schools, then. I don’t think what you have done is really relevant to Wharton admissions, but I imagine there are other schools you could look at as well, including the other colleges of UPenn.

Well yeah… my top choice is the Huntsman Program (UPenn) because I really love international issues, well all the multicultural things, I’m one of them! (Born in India and grew up in Mexico haha) and the business factor well I’m really interested in it, I like all the subjects like Economy, Accounting, and so…

Apply to Huntsman, then. With proficiency in three languages—are you literate in Tamil (many Indian Americans I know cannot write in their native languages)—I think you have additional grounds for getting into the program. It’s certainly tough to get into, though, so if you want to study business in the US, I suggest that you looking into other programs as well.

Stern at NYU
Kellogg at Northwestern
Ross at UMich

well I don’t write perfectly haha but I can write slowly and steadly!
ohh of course! thanks for your advice.
It’s just that I want to get financial aid and in the stuff I’ve read its really hard for international applicants
What other advice can you give that could help me getting into Hunstman?

At UPenn you could get financial aid, which is only available to Canadian, American, and Mexican students.

You have a lot of time to write essays, and be sure that someone very proficient in English proofread them.

being an international student from mexico with a gpa of 96… i have my doubts and i feel that it is really inflated… idk why ur only planning on taking the sat once you should have done it before… but if you do get a 2200 and 750’s on ur subject tests… i think you are on par with the rest of applicants. and you would have chance…

Okay124398: Yeah I know… that’s why I’m really interested in UPenn (I’m a mexican citizen)… the only thing I need is to get in! hahaha that’s the hard part. Does it help in some way that I’ve been writing a blog in english since I’m 9 years old? As extra stuff that could help haha.

rodrigo9: It’s matter of time, I just got one shot because I want to apply ED. this weekend I’ll be presenting the SAT subjects and in november the SAT
