I think I will end up focusing a lot of my app on my filmmaking. That is what my college counselor has told me to do. I've taken 2 community college courses on film history and theory (As on both). I'm also doing an Independent Project next year for school on film criticism.

One suggestion my college counselor gave me is to send a documentary I made on HIV/AIDS awareness. It's solid, professional stuff. Not very creative, but very solid. She says it will help connect the film and science aspects of my college app. Any suggestions on this?

Wow. As an aspiring filmmaker I am jealous but why Yale. Their film program isn't anything impressive

And American Graffiti is a piece of garbage, no offense.

You have a great shot with those scores. BTW what Com. College did you take courses at.

I think you have a great chance at Yale especially since you seem great academically and EC wise. The passion for filming really shows as most of your activities are centered around that area. You should focus on your filmmaking on your essay and you'll really shine. The research internship seems rather weird and stands out a bit strangely though. What do you want to major in? Film? If so, you may also want to consider Weslyan; they have a great film/movie program. Good luck!

Chance me back?

No, film is just something I like to do and have a deep interest in. Nothing I want to continue as a profession, esp considering Hollywood nowadays.

I'm thinking about doing English Lit or Psychology...maybe pre-med. I know that's wierd, but everyone has different interests and I'm kind of glad I can get into pretty much anything.

btw I really like American Graffiti. From a purely minimalistic technical perspective. Also...i figured it had a lot to do with college haha. Putting Citizen Kane as a CC screen name just wouldnt be right.

The research does seem to stick out a bit, but I actually like science a lot. I'm going to get a rec from my AP Chem teacher and my college counselor told me that of all the films i've made, i should send the my HIV documentary because it would help me connect the two facets of my application.

One possible essay i've been working on is one that focuses on how I met a young cancer patient at one of my research internships and connected with him because of a mutual interest in film.

My
Post!

I would say that your strong in all facets of your application. The only thing that is "missing" would be professional work in film such as an internship or employment. Other than that just write killer essays and your golden.

Albeit, American Graffiti is a fitting name for a college website it is still a crap film. Sorry to burst your bubble. I mean there are four totally unrelated stories which don't give much reason for the viewer to actually care. The soundtrack is annoying and loud and its appeal is limited to those who like the 50's, pretty much. It attempts to be coming of age but fails because it doesn't truly show anything "coming of age". Profanity seems inappropriately placed and overdone. I curse, don't get me wrong its the usage that bothered me.

And another thing, there is nothing funny in it. For something supposed to be a comedy, to a degree, it is not funny and corny.

See a better movie with the same topic pretty much: Dazed and Confused. Linklater handled that well.

thepack88: Seen it. IMO, American Graffiti has so much more to offer. Regardless of opinion, the only thing important in film is that one keep an open mind. As long as you do that, nothing else matters.
