Chances for Yale?

I'm in a very small, public highschool, about 400 people, roughly 100 per grade.
I'm second in my class.

Unweighted: 3.98
Weighted: 5.78

SATs: 2180

ECs:
-Captain of both JV and Varsity soccer teams, subsequently.
-Competitive track runner. Mile: 4:43
-national honors society
-national foreign language honors society
-8 years of trumpet.
(have been accepted into northern regionals and all state bands)
+ school jazz band/ honors bands

Volunteering
-800+ hours at local hospital (want to go into medicine)

Recreational
-skiing (alpine + cross country)
-sailing
-guitar

How the hell is your grade weighed so much!? >…<

Anyway,
-2180 SAT could be higher
-Where are your SAT II’s? (Although you’re probably just a junior, so it’s understandable…)
-Any hooks? (URM, Legacy, recruit)

My grandpa went to Yale, and was pretty big for a few years as an alumni (some organization or something) but doesnt have a building named after him or anything.

And about the GPA. My schools system is a little weird…

Academic = 5.0
Honors = 6.0
AP = 7.0

(that’s the worth of an “A” of course.)

Basically I get a’s and a+'s in honors classes and a-'s in Ap.

Lol I was asking about the weighed as a personal question… It’s just that it’s so high, and my school you get at most an extra 2 points. Lol.

And believe it or not, that legacy could help you slightly… Not as much as a parent legacy, but definitely worth putting on your app…

Increase your SAT, get good SAT’s, possibly apply SEA, and I’d say you’re competitive.

Good luck! :)

the legacy could help, especially if you’re considered “developmental”.
What was your course load like? If an A is a 7.0 in an AP class, and your W GPA is 5.78, it looks like you got straight As (nearly) in easier classes - correct me if i’m wrong, but that’ll be frowned upon.
The SAT should go up (as a rule of thumb, I think breaking 2250 makes you competitive).
Did you do anything significant as a volunteer? Because 800+ hours is impressive, but how did you contribute? Maybe get a letter of rec’ from your supervisor.
Any awards?

I think you have the potential of being a competitive applicant, but you need to improve certain areas of your app.

I don’t believe a grandparent makes you a legacy at Yale, just a parent. Of course if they’ve given millions, your a development candidate.

I’m not seeing the over the top academics or ECs Yale requires in what you’ve written. There are some factors that would help: being low income, living in an inner city, being from an underrepresented state. I’m assuming you’re not first gen if a grandparent attended Yale.
