Chances from California?

Hi im a junior from California and im very interested in UNC next year but ive heard that OOS is much more competitive, why is this? Im also interested in Georgetown which is more of a reach, but ive heard it is good to be from across the country, because they like their applicants to be from all over the place.

Any thoughts?

Hey, I’m an in-state student applying to UNC this year. The reason OOS admissions are really competitive is partially because NC state law is that OOS students are capped at 18%. I’m not sure if that’s 18% of all undergrads or 18% of accepted freshman applicants. Anyone know?

^ I don’t see the difference between those two things. If it is 18% of the freshman class, won’t it end up being 18% of the entire class?

Theres no cap on OOS transfers so the student body is more than 18%

Kenneth?

It is just 18% for the incoming freshmen class, at least that’s what they said in one of the UNC open houses. And UNC is very difficult to get in. Since you’re out-of-state, your chances in getting in is almost as similar as applying to the IV’s. UNC has rejected some perfect ACT/SAT applicants. They consider leadership, passion, difficulty of courses, and essays as important factors. You should still apply and give it a shot. You’ll never know until you try.
