Chances from wait list?

A close friend of my DD was wait listed at Wake. Her grades and scores are strong. I checked on Naviance all 16 students from our high school that applied with grades and scores at her level were accepted. I don't know about the essays because I did not see them. Obviously there was something that the Adcom was not impressed with.

How does the wait list at WFU work? Is it a very long wait list? Do they actually end up taking some students from the wait list? Can she improve her chances by calling or having her high school counselor call to indicate interest? What else can she do to improve her chances?

Any thoughts or information would be appreciated.

I would say her chances are slim to none.
3750 applicants were accepted for 1250 spots that are open. 500 were for early decision which means 500/1250 are locked. That means 750 slots are open to 3250 of the rest of the kids. In other words, if AT LEAST 750 students submit an enrollment deposit, then the wait list is useless since all the spots they wanted to fill are filled. If less than 750 kids accept their spot (keep in mind, less than 750 out of 3250 which is less than 25%), then the wait list will come into play and they will accept kids in whatever order they choose.

To keep it short, don’t get your hopes up.
