Chances *gasp*

Hispanic Junior Male
Medical Magnet School
San Antonio, TX

Weighted GPA-~96.5+ (this includes my good freshman grades though...)
Rank-~ Top 15 percent (30/200) * * * * *
SAT-~2050+ (~700+ Math, ~700+ Critical Reading, ~650 Writing) I'm really trying hard to hike these scores up though, writing will probably go up
I don't know yet, but I'm hoping I got National Hispanic Merit

I'm taking 3 AP classes this year (Stats, English, Physics B), but I'm going to end up taking the US History AP test (we don't have anything but regulars for US Hist). I took Comp Sci AP sophomore year, but didn't take the test. I plan on taking these AP classes next year: Gov/Eco AP, English Lit AP, Calculus AB AP, Biology AP, and Spanish AP.

ECs: President of HOSA (medical club), involved in knitting booties for premies, (the usual: SHS, NHS, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, Red Cross Club), Anime Club (I'm really into the Japanese culture; used to live there), I did something in the summer with the homeless and HIV/AIDS victims of inner-city Houston. Another summer, I worked at McDonalds, and next summer I would like to either take Japanese at a community college or work at the hospital

Awards: UIL Spelling and Vocabulary 2nd @ Districts, 13th Regionals, This year I'm probably going to get 1st @ Districts, top 10 in Regionals. I'm gonna do HOSA medical spelling, probably top 3 @ regionals; top ten @ state. I'm gonna do UIL stuff for choir. (I probably will win like 2nd or 1st best in Botany @ the Alamo Regional Science Fair.) Won a couple essay contests.

Chances? Thanks in advance!

Fair scores. Did u take Sat2?

No, but I'm optimistic, and think I'd get these scores or higher:

US History - 750+
Math II C - 750+
Physics - 700+ (depends if I really study, I can get a lot higher)

How much is my rank hurting me? :) Thanks

edit I just bought the Lit book, so I guess I'm taking that know instead of Physics probably. Too much humanities?

bump it up

Rejected, ur SAT's are below the 25th percentile, and your not top 10% of your class

oh...SAT - Verbal Range (25-75%): 680-770
SAT - Math Range (25-75%): 690-790
TPR Projected Range SAT Writing: 680-740

I thought I was sort in the range... :-

glucose...are you from Health Careers?

after reading all your stats, im thinking you will get rejected because of your writing score. I know it's an approximation, but the initial screening scores of P-town are probably around 700ish.

oh, and your class rank will definitely hurt you. If you ARE from health careers, and if i remember correctly, only the valedictorian got into p-town last year. (and #2 DIDNT GET INTO RICE...i <3 that girl though, despite the fact that she's a longhorn now..)

Oh, also. SAT IIs are VERY VERY difficult...ok, not difficult, but you definitely need lots of practice!!

Unless your essays are extremely excellent, I don't think you have a good chance.

Good luck! and improve those scores!

Apollo, how'd you guess?! lol...I'm obvious

I'm pretty sure I can get my writing score to like 720+, reading 730+, and math like 750+....I hope :)

Would a male knitter count as being passionate or a hook? I knit things for people that need them (seniors, babies).

What do you mean he'll be rejected because of "subpar stats"? His scores are within range, and the writing section is not being counted so heavily this year. Also, he is Hispanic. If he does well on his SAT IIs, he has a decent shot. The only thing that is a bit out of range, stat-wise, that would make one scratch their chin is his class rank.

I would definitely send a portfolio of your knittings in 35mm slides along with a description. Last year a girl from NJ sent in a portfolio of wood crafts and got accepted. I don't know how strong the rest of her app was.

Take digital pictures of the things you knitted and you can have them converted into slides.
http://www.slideplus.com/index.htm

According to your AI (Academic Index), you are probably a high 4 (close to 3) on the Princeton Scale. (1=amazing, 5=almost positive reject).

What this means is you're going to need a couple good hooks. (hispanic=good)

My suggestions would be:
a) Write a good essay.

The apps are due tomorrow, so if your tests aren't done, then its a little too late. All that you can do is pretty much wait and hope. You definitely have a chance at getting in!

Best of luck!

My advice: get your scores up, write amazing essays (but everyone needs to do this), get good grades so your rank will be higher. You have time because you are only a junior.

I think your ECs and Awards are pretty good.

If you take my advice (and the advice of others), I think you will have a much better shot than what some other people said on here, especially with being Hispanic. Good luck!

Ah. Oops. My mistake.

Then yes, getting your scores up will greatly increase your chances.

Good luck!

How much do I need to get my scores up?

probably around a 2200 or better

a lot. Get a 2150, and bring up your grades, and then come back and post chances threads. Predicted scores arent accurate. You should pick up some prep materials, and even if you only spend prepping the time that you spend on College Confidential wondering about your chances, youd be surprised how well you do on your college entrance exams. Time is of the essence... Learn to manage and not waste it.

Ok...thanks!
