out of state, from New Orleans, and i am under the impression thats gonna hurt me.

i know i wont be valedictorian or anything. Are there any other scholarships that are full or close to full?

Also, does UConn waive out of state fees if they think you're a good student. For example, one of my friends got his out of state tuition waived for UT Austin, and is paying in-state tuition to attend.

GPA: 3.9/4.2

Through word of mouth and pictures, Storrs seems to be pretty rural, can i bring my car so i can easily access the nearest town?

Not sure if you can get your OOS tuition waived, but there are certainly scholarships and merit money available, so call and ask the FA office about those.

Storrs is very rural, there is not much around. You can bring a car but you cannot get a university parking permit until you have taken 54 credits (junior standing). On the bright side, permits are pretty cheap compared to other schools.

However, there are many (non university owned) places on or around campus that will let you park in their lots for a fee. Farmer Brown's lot comes to mind, but that is ridiculously expensive; one of my friends paid a fee and got permission to park in a church lot somewhere near campus.

Your OOS status means you stand less of a chance than an in-state student with similar stats, but it's not a bad thing. UConn has been accepting more and more OOSers in recent years. Additionally, your stats are good enough that you will probably be accepted (into the honors program I'm sure) despite your OOS status.

theres no good reason to go to uconn. its expensive, really cold/windy, the girls are ugly, and people from the NE generally are aholes. you're much better off going to lsu for cheap. the cops are also awful. i know someone who got a $70 ticket last year for JAYWALKING. the closest town, wilamantic, is crappy too...unless you're looking to score heroin.

Expense is relative. Cold and windy, yes. If you want nice weather, UConn (or the northeast for that matter) are the wrong place. People from the NE being *******s is not true. Just like any other place, some people are and some aren't. I've met a lot of good people. As for cops, they're strict about speeding and stuff, but they're pretty cool. I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for jaywalking though. Willimantic is a crappy town. But if you have a car you can make the drive to Manchester, which is an awesome place.

But like Omniscient said, the girls are not ugly.

yeh you can probably get into honors with those grades n stuff. i wouldnt buy parkin at farmer browns unless you absolutely need it. peoples cars get messed up there.

as far as a-holes and ugly chicks, its a school of 17,000 people plus a ridiculous amount of staff. youre bound to run into some wack cops and some chill cops, some a-holes and awesome people, as well as some ugly chicks and some babes too. the girls at uconn arent bad on average. i mean its not like utexas status but it isnt like a pool of hideous people either. you just gotta know where to look.

as far as willimantic and those towns go, if you have a car or you know people who do, you can easily man up another like 20 minutes and go to hartford or something. hell, boston and providence are like within an hrs drive away. its not that bad. i was skeptical too about it too but i rarely leave campus.

For the school to allow your car to be kept on campus, you must have some 56 credits ( a.k.a.junior status). Otherwise, you'll hae to rent a space in a nearby field ( the guy's name is Farmer Brown) but I've heard that's rather pricey.
