Thanks so much for your feedback. I will chance yours too <3
You have pretty good grades, however from what I have seen (from people whove applied to any UC from my school) is that extra curriculars are very important to the UC’s. You seem pretty involved, but you do not have any leadership, which could be a problem, but overall I think you would be a good applicant to these schools.
Computer engineering can be tough to get into for some schools
Just to be safe, try to get your SAT score up
UCD- Match
CPSLO- Match
UCSD- Strong Reach (acceptance rate for computer science is 18%
UCSB- Reach (25% acceptance rate)
Alright thanks for all your feedback, At this point I don’t even know how to bump up my EC before the college application deadlines. I’m not sure but I started a local volleyball club at my local Boys and Girls Club. Not really sure if that shows leadership. Also @Sk0975 can you please provide me with your chances link? Thanks a lot.
Ah, Was not aware SLO acceptance rate was so low, then i would say its also a reach. Not because I believe youre a bad applicant, but because it would probably be a reach for almost everyone applying.
Actually, I think being on a varsity volleyball team is hard and involves a lot of leadership and discipline. I personally think that it is a really good EC given the amounts of games and travel time involved.
This activity should distinguish you from other CS and CE majors, who aren’t involved in sports, because it shows that you can step outside of the books. We were often told that the universities wanted students who weren’t “books” because they had “plenty of those”.
Focus on that volleyball club you started as a major EC. The adcoms know what kind of discipline it takes to balance hours of games with your academics. Not easy. All of my kids played in several varsity sports. The fundraising, practices, and club practices kept them very busy. I think they got in because of their balance of tough academics, sports, and stepping out of their comfort zones.
calculate ur UC GPA. and also try to get SAT up 1400+, or 1500+ if u want super high chance. Just study a lot!!!
UCSD- reach
SLO- reach
UCSB- low reach
UCD- high match
definetely improve ur SAT score and it would be nice if ur ECs had a CompSci related stuff.
CS is also the most competitive major at these schools, so chances are super hard.
CE is slightly easier but still hard.
you are a solid maybe for all the schools you list. Add a couple you know you will get into. UCSC and SDSU are good targets with very good CS programs.
UCSB does not have business program, but Economic and Accounting program. If you still want that, then I would say you have a fair chance, as long as you raise your SAT or take ACT and get around 30. This is based on my assumption that your UC gpa is around 4.1. You have a better ECs than me.
I’ll give UCSC a shot. Would it matter if I’m a captain on Varsity Volleyball or not? I’ve heard that it looks great but I’m not a captain yet considering I’m a upcoming senior and the season starts in March. Would it look good if I do Community College courses in the last few months before my application is due? Thanks for all your replies guys.
