Looking to transfer to Yale, Penn, Columbia, as my top choices...Possibly Amherst College ( was deferred early decision then rejected last year), possibly NYU

High School GPA was around a 3.6 something i believe-just outside of the top 10 percent with a massive upward trend...

EC's....Professional Jazz Pianist, Running/Swimming All through high school, Running/Swimming Club in College, Chemory chemistry society

do i stand a chance at these schools???

additionally, is anyone who has successfully transferred willing to read my essay to see if i'm on the right track?

i would say that you would get into Amherst and NYU (great job getting that high GPA!!), but the Ivys will be reaches. be sure to write strong essays and keep up the grades!

I was accepted to Amherst college as a transfer, but im staying @ my cc (because I didnt receive credit for 5 classes). I can say that your chances are average. Amherst looks for a hook and i dont see any... the only thing you have going for you is your high gpa.

professional jazz pianist isnt a hook? its how i got deferred and not rejected with my crappy high school grades...i sent in recordings last year

mojojo - are you kidding? you were accepted to amherst from a community college but decided not to attend because they didn't take 5 of your classes? Wow...just wow.

As I've said to everyone else: High GPA + Test Scores = ballpark. Now you need to focus on your reason/s for transferring and come up with something better than "Your school is more prestigious than mine" or "I like NYC!". Good luck.

brand, i dont care about prestige...their finaid offer was nice (which i could have used because im experiencing financial hardship) but honestly, i feel that i like my community college. There were so many factors that went into my decision. My cc is so diverse and i feel at place there. Oh, and if there are any fools out there who dont believe me, PM me and i'll send you a pic of my acceptance lol

I also think that i might belong at berkeley, if that helps.

i also forgot to mention that the UCs accept all my credits cuz they take all credits from ccc. Amherst's credit policy is horrible. Since they have 4 units per class, what they do is divide all your units/credits by 4 (taking away any classes that are not liberal arts) and then thats how many classes transfer. So regardless of how many classes you took, you're screwed. On their website says that they are starting to cater to CC students, but obviously not! They screwed me over so that i had to stay there for an extra semester. Im suppose to graduate with the class of 09, but according to the credits i received from amherst, i would graduate with the class of '10. No thanks!!!

dude...

lol. Well, I guess if you end up at Berkeley and are happy, that's just as well.

yeah, i think being happy at your school is like the best thing you can go for. Definately listen to your heart!!! :)
