Chances? GPA? Where else to go?

So, I am waiting to hear back from UGA and am getting pretty nervous since it is my top choice. How exactly does UGA figure the average gpa? Like, when they say that the average GPA is a 3.76, is that with or without AP credit added in? And is the GPA they post already with just the core classes, or do they take that out after? Also, what really gets you in to UGA? I have talked to a ton of people, and UGA seems all over the place with who they accept. And last, for those who don't get in, what are some other options? I am leaning towards Auburn, but I was wondering if GSU was even worthwhile for a year.

To get into UGA you need to have a rigorous corse load, like most hon. classes freshmen and soph. year and some AP's jr. year. Solid EC's with some leadership, but not sure about SAT range..i'm thinking 550-650 on each section?
I think UGA uses your core (HOPE core) classes and your unweighted GPA (without inflation for AP and honors classes). You can also try Georgia Southern or Kenesaw State, but I think it is too late to apply now....

See, I didn't do any of the honors classes ever, and my freshman and sophomore years were both bad for me (a lot more B's). I have gone past the basic requirements you need to graduate, I just didn't take honors classes. I have two AP classes this year, A's in both of them. My unweighted GPA is a 3.65. I have a 1210 SAT (on the 1600 scale). As for extracurriculars, I have done a lot of different things but not the typical things you would expect a high school student to do (horse back riding, showing/breeding dogs, working at a two different BBs, etc.). I have done things with school too though (TAG, Equestrian Club, Newspaper, NLHS, etc). I already have applied to and gotten into four other schools (GSU included). Then, I applied to Kennesaw and Gainesville in Oconee on a spur of the moment thing a couple weeks back. I just really, really want to go to UGA. I am in love with it, but if I don't get in, I have NO idea what to do. There isn't really anywhere else in Ga that I want to go, and I am not sure about Auburn. I have heard that everyone loves it, but I don't know.

Actually they do use your weighted GPA. I got in and I wasn't expecting it. I had a 3.54 GPA and a lot of APs.

I applied early action. I got in with a 4.0 unweighted and SATs of 550M, 580W, 620V. I don't know if it's harder or easier to get in with regular decision, but comparing you with me, I think you could get in. Your GPA is lower than mine, but your SATs are higher. Of course, I'm not an expert at college admissions!

I think it depends on your location. If you are from a high school in which the most competitive students take many APs/honors you may be in some trouble. However, regular decision is much more focused on the all around applicant. Ive seen people get into UGA with under 1100's, so anything is possible.

UGA...really isn't that hard to get into so I don't think you have much to worry about. The lack of advanced classes is kinda an issue for concern...since regular classes are kinda looked at as being easy and might make them waitlist you since your gpa is high and therefore you had all the potential to excel in advanced classes. I'm sure you're fine though, don't think too much into it

well i just found out that i'm in and i have a 3.3 gpa! i wasn't expecting it either, but i got a 1270 on my sat and i guess my courses are "rigorous" enough, lol

To answer the original question, UGA does use a weighted average. However, the weighted average does not weight honors classes, just AP classes. AP classes are given .5 in weight. This effectively means that if you get a B (3.0) in an AP class, UGA would calculate that grade as a 3.5.
