So you begin with 1 out of 11 - or at least that's what Harvard says. What factors do you have that make you more likely than the average H. applicant, and what less? Are you a developmental admit, a legacy, or the son of a Senator, Congressman, or Ambassador? Are you a desired URM? Are you being recruited for your sport? Do you hold any patents, or are you a published novelist, or did you compete in the Olympics? If not, you can make the odds a bit longer. Then you can back up from that and ask yourself what make your chances better than the remaining applicants.

That's likely the best anyone can do for you.

looks like a decent chance. but again, its harvard, so expectations are always premature by any stretch.

Absolutely no chance.......

Absolutely no chance of rejection

Instead of using Mini's way, which can really break one's heart, I start from the top and work my way down. Val + 2400 SAT I/II = 60 percent chance EA. Then our average Harvard app: top 5% + 2100 SAT I/II = 5% EA.

So you have a 5-60% chance from a numerical standpoint. As far as numbers are concerned I'd say 30% (Asian status sort of mitigates your test scores, sorry!). Your EC's are good, even among the pool of applicants with similar numbers. So I'll give you 40%.

In the end it's a crapshoot but I think that's a good way to do it: roughly 4 in 10 with the application you present will be accepted.

Hey I was kidding up there...

Good chance, but I'm not gonna lie, seems like a generic HYPS app. to me...

You've got a great shot.

"Instead of using Mini's way, which can really break one's heart, I start from the top and work my way down. Val + 2400 SAT I/II = 60 percent chance EA. Then our average Harvard app: top 5% + 2100 SAT I/II = 5% EA."

This only works if you think Harvard is so heavily focused on what are in fact tiny differences in SAT scores (like whether, or three separate SAT tries, on a single test, you answered one question more accurately than the next applicant.) I give the Harvard adcoms a lot more credit than that.

Anyhow, the 1 out of 11 are Harvard's published numbers, and the factors that can reduce one's chances below that (become one lacks them) are also pretty public. But if you don't apply, the chances are zero.

Yeah, I could understand how I seem to come off as a little bland, but I really tried to show my passion for medicine through my essays and my app. Both of my teacher recs emphasized how much I enjoyed medicine. My interview went really well and I had a supp rec from my research mentor that was also really good.

this person isnt that bright, huh? wow.

im sure he was just being supportive

hey no g8 sn, can i ask you how many times you took your sat? im taking practice tests, and they dont look so good(for harvard)-like 620M, 620V and 700WR. can i ask you how you did on your first sat's and how you practiced to improve them?

Took it once, but I studied really hard. Took a summer prep course. Um, just take practice tests/questions and do vocab. Read a good novel. Learn all of the writing "rules".

If you are self-studying, get the Kaplan SAT book.

all american is a really big deal, does harvard have a water polo team?

It's academic all-american. Basically it is the top ten water polo players in terms of grades who were looked at, but not chosen to be, on the all-american team.

Yes, Harvard does have water polo team, but my school team is so competitive that I was not a starter in my junior year, so I guess I couldn't really be considered as a recruit with a lack of varsity experience.

top ten water polo players in the country?

since that isnt what i thought it was, id say you dont have an above average chance...

hey, duz ur screename have anything to do with the anti G8 group "NO G8"

No i forgot the "r" in Gr8. lol. Now about my chances...

Oh yea. I thought I might ask what the effect will be if I only have three years of high school foreign lang. I went up to IV in summer school but I never took AP opting to take Honors and AP Comp Sci. Of course, I explained this in my app.

Thanks a lot guys.
