Im a high school sophomore and I’m very interested in attending Boston University one day. This school year I had a 3.57 gpa. But the thing that worries me is that my freshman year i had a 2.75 gpa. In fact im very smart. My junior year I’m pretty sure I can make straight A’s. By the end of my junior year I plan to have a 3.5 cumulative gpa (becuase of bad freshman year). Im in various honors courses, I’m taking three AP’s, and two honors classes next year. I plan on having around a 1900 out of 2400 on the SAT. Im African-American, I’m in numerous extra-curricular activities such as Futures Business Leaders of America, National Business Honor Society, Track, and Basketball, and more. I plan on majoring in Finance at BU’s School of Management. I was wondering if I had a chance to be accepted into BU or any other prestigious school in the North East. Also how much of an impact my freshman year makes on my chances of acceptance. Thanks.

Umm it's always nice to have what college admissions officers would call an upward grade trend.. Obviously having competitive grades throughout all of high school would put you in a better position.. but your improvement shows dedication and commitment.

haha and you think BU is prestigious? I know it's a good school but I didn't think many people thought of it as prestigious.. haha makes me feel good hearing that now that I've been accepted and all. Good luck!

I know BU isn't Harvard, but I still think it is a good solid school and I'm just wondering, if people think I can gain acceptance to BU or similar schools. Thanks

For extra insurance, see if you can get that SAT up to 2000. (Taking a lot of practice tests helps). Then you'll be in a good position.

No racism implied but because you're an african american, you should have I'm feeling a 90-95% chance of getting in. I'm applying next year and I had a 3.0 fresh, followed by 4.0's thereafter. My gpa is now a 3.75!:) Good luck!
