Thanks for the help! :)

Well like you said, you’re fine except for the ECs you listed. Try to think of things that may not be “official” ECs (like playing an instrument for fun w/o taking lessons or anything), and put that down. It depends what you spent your free time doing. Remember that UCLA doesn’t really have a way to verify your ECs so you can embellish them (within reason, like not putting major awards that can be looked up).

Alright thanks I’ll do that!

any other opinions?

Many schools will look at your SAT as 1540 (CR + M) and discount your writing score. Less than 10,000 students each year get a 1540 on the SAT in a single sitting (per SAT web site). Given your high GPA (assume at least top 5%) and solid curriculum, I think you will be in very good shape at UCLA even w/o lots of ECs.

cool thanks for the input i’ll keep that in mind! :)

When I saw “high gpa/test, few ECs” in your title, I immediately thought you’re suited for berkeley, not ucla. Your post confirmed it. You have really great stats, but your lack of ECs means ucla won’t take you.

Unless you’re talking about transferring to undergrad from community college or applying to an engineering masters program–then ECs don’t matter at all.

why so many koreans want to appear at ucla ?

oh, also, those International chinese?

My son had high SAT, pretty high grades, but poor EC’s.

He got in, but he was OOS.

From my experiences and those I’ve witnessed, UC Berkeley acceptances are hit or miss. My friend got rejected from UCLA but made it into Berkeley. She was average in terms of academics and maybe a little above average in terms of extra-curriculars. As for UCLA, I feel like you either need to be really really smart, or be strongly well-rounded. You’re academics seem pretty strong, but definitely hit up those ECs if it’s not too late!

Then there’s the case of “interesting” vs.“well rounded” applicants. :eek:

What is “OOS?”

OOS = Out Of State
