Well, I would say that you have an average/slightly below average chance of being accepted at any of the afformentioned schools; your grades are pretty good [A as in 85%85%-90%?], you have solid SSAT scores, and good ECs. Your stats will probably put you in the middle/ sightly above middle of the applicant pool. Unfortunately you’re asian [why can’t we all be URMS?], and swimming, math, piano, science, programming, and debate are standard ecs/strengths for an asian applicant. I see little that differentiates you from the rest of the asian applicants. Things like rugby, football, guitar, hockey, and drums are activities that are atypical of asians. As well, asians tend to be stronger in math/science, and there are far fewer standout humanities students. Moreover, your awards are lacking [I understand that there are few competitions in your area, so maybe you should explain that on your app]. Another thing that could have a negative impact on your admissions chance is that you are an international student, and the acceptance % is much lower for international applicants. Moreover, if you apply for a significant amount of financial aid, it could cripple your chances, as your target schools are not need blind for internationals, and internationals are limited by the constraints of a VERY tight international FA budget. Despite all of this, I think you should certainly apply, and hopefully you will get in. Best of luck! Btw, I’m Canadian too, eh? Canucks ftw!

i seriously want jerryreps and flash9k to go to the same school… like IMHO

@middleschool8: it seems you have gotten off my wrong side of harsh chance ratings…
by the way, I don’t these asians with 15 EC’s and international tours are all that poor…

I think most CC posters are above the average stats of a “Ten School” applicant.

i’m not applying for FA lol. my dad is a president of a NASDAQ company. We’re not exactly short on money.
Thanks for the feedback, I was hoping that programming might might be a rarer EC because I’ve never seen anybody else get into it. but perhaps I’m wrong.
A in our school is 92.5-98 %.
If it helps I used to play rugby before I broke my arm in (wait for it…) high jump.

here’s a question for all you guys–Andover and Exeter actually came to Beijing this year, and they explicitly said that they wanted more Chinese people in their school. Is this good or bad for us bananas (yellow on the outside, white on the inside)?

@ middleschool8

I’m a Vancouverite but I say YEAH HABS. :)

@flash9k

Holy snap. Are they being sarcastic or what? JIONG. This just makes me confused of where we Asians stand in this. …?

^ word up to jerryrreps

LOL yes…Canadiens are the best! I don’t like the leafs. :l And lol, if they want more asians, then you’re golden…or should I say yellow? And yes, you’re right, programming is a rather unique ec.

Haha. See, that was my first reaction too. My second reaction was that they would want Chinese people because of grades, and us international students cannot academically compete with the Chinese locals.

YERROW~

They say they don’t discriminate any applicant by race, gender, sexual orientation etc. BUT THEN THEY TELL US THIS :(

jerry: shush, get offline, and work on your essays. They’re due in like 10 days. Exeter’s is due in less because you have to mail them.

not necessarily, since they’re postmarked ^^ as long as they’re sent by jan 15, you’ll be fine

Oooo…really? So even if we live in Beijing and it takes a mail 10 days to reach US, if we send the essay out by jan 15 we’re good?

yes.

tenchar

wonderful (<-damn, this was 9char)

Pretty sure exeter isn’t postmarked.

-.-|| Stuck on Deerfield broad-and-no-word-limit essay. Where to start, where to start…

yeah, *** at that essay. that stupid essay that i feel like i have to rewrite to have a remote chance at getting into deerfield. stupidstupidstupidstupidstupidstupidstupid****.

LOL chillax everyone…
i actually really like my deerfield essay however, its at ~900 words. i realize i probably should have kept it at 400-600, but i already submitted it, so too late now i quite like it, regardless

The reason they were doing that was for the big exeter, andover game day. I was confused at first until my tour guides explained it to me

^ that was in response to a previous comment about exter dissing andover

just putting it out there but the northeast is/was covered in a pretty thick blanket of snow so i would get the apps. out as fast as you can…don’t want them to get the package too late
