Chances...I could only resist for so long

I applied ED to Huntsman/College. Target language: Spanish
Ethnicity: White Jew from Indiana
SAT:
V: 740
M: 750
W: 720

SAT-II:
Math I: 730
Math II: 720
US History: 750
English Lit: 690

APs:
US History: 5
English Language: 5
GPA: 3.9 unweighted

Senior Schedule:
AP Government
AP Spanish
AP Calculus AB
AP English Lit
AP Biology
Jazz Band

Recs:
All three great (I got a third from my Spanish teacher), and one said I got the highest average ever in his class, which was cool.

Essays:
Seemed good enough. They're good stories/descriptions, and my advisor thought they were entertaining and enlightening.

ECs:
Youth Group (9-12) Vice-President
Newspaper (10-12) Assistant Editor
Forensics (10-12)
Jazz Band (9-12)
Special all-year senior project thing (12)

Also:
National Merit Semifinalist
Legacy through my father and grandfather

My prediction: rejected at Huntsman, accepted at college.

To be honest, Huntsman will be a tough challenge with these scores and ECs.
I think you may have a fighting chance for Wharton.
Huntsman only admits around 30 students per year, and you've got to have some very unique character which I dont think you have

Well my second choice is the College, not Wharton. Yeah, it's odd, I know.

you're a very strong candidate at any Ivy but, of course, it is an Ivy and is at a certain point a lottery, so you can't bet on anything. Good luck!

oh hey, i was just talking to you on a different UPenn thread... =]

you're in good shape for the college

huntsman...not so much

Oh, I am so good at predicting myself.

Or maybe I've just read this board too much...

^both (10 char)

yeah white jews represent! hahah

but yeah idk about huntsman, but the college seems very reasonable.

actually huntsman accepts 45-50 kids a year

yeah with 45-50 odds arent good for ANYONE...'cept maybe Jesus (MAYBE)

Hmm, the stat published was that 85% of the Huntsman kids matriculated for the class of 2011, correct? That caused over-enrollment (the website publishes that they shoot for 45 kids, but 2011 has 50 or 51 I think) so if you do the math, the program accepted closer to 60 kids last year.

i think that the huntsman is a high reach and that penn is a reach. i would never say that an ivy is a match for anyone, though.

just for reference, i applied rd with lower gpa and higher test scores and got waitlisted. however, with legacy and ed i think you have a better chance.

I also had an on-campus interview (because of my legacy) and an alumni interview. Then I sent some thank you notes.

...for what it's worth.

Oh, and I go to a nice private school, with no one else applying to Penn ED.

A private school, or a Jewish Parochial school?

Secular. (10 char)

That's surprising that you're the only one applying to Upenn then

Yeah, but it just reinforces my need to get in ED. A few people with higher grades have it as their second or third choice.

Oh, gotcha, well I wish you then best of luck.
