Chances? (I know people hate these, sorry.)

I go to TJ, so I'm in-state. I'm going to be a senior this fall, and I am a Chinese girl.
4.032 weighted GPA
2310 (800 M, 800 CR, 710 W) SAT
800 Math II/740 Literature SAT IIs
7 APs by the time I graduate (Music Theory, BC Calculus, US History, Physics (Mechanics and E&M), Government, Statistics and Literature)
I am taking challenging courses such as Optics and Quantum Physics next year, so I'm hoping that makes up for my lack of APs.

I am a member of NHS and the Russian Honor Society.
I will have been a member of the state championship winning marching band for four years and I am a section leader.
I will have been a member of the world finalist drumline for three years.
I tutor underprivileged kids near the school.
I play in my church orchestra.

There's this ridiculous thing called Family Connection that is linked to our Blackboard accounts and I saw it today and nearly died. It doesn't look like I can get into any college now... If my chances are awful at UVA, what other schools would you recommend?

You’re probably in.

Be careful not to inflate your EC’s…

TJ is not the marching band state champions

TJ’s drumline is not the world finalist (world’s finest?)

Okay, do you know anything about marching band and drumline? We actually are. We’ve been state champions for two years in a row. We made WGI world finals last year at Dayton. Be careful not to sound like a dummy when posting.

I’m VERY familiar (and a big fan) with marching band and drumline. When someone says their school is the state champion, it would imply that ALL schools from that state participated…not a competition sponsored by a private organization.

with those stats AND in-state, you’re in.

What’s you unweighted GPA? (Not that I think it’ll really matter – you go to TJ, your SAT score’s pretty sweet, and you’re in-state. If I were you, I’d consider myself in.)

Unless there is some kind of strange dynamic that will come into play because there are so many qualified students from TJ applying, you are almost certainly in.

flavoric3, if you’re interested in doing Marching Band in college, you might want to meet with Bill Pease or Drew Koch and make your intentions clear (and also get a sense of their program). Kids with art/music talent get an extra edge in admissions. There was some talk a few years ago of special scholarships for Marching Band members but I don’t know whether that ever materialized.

I think when discussing championships, especially for something such as marching band, it would important to disclose what division/chapter/group you are a part of and the specific award. My high school was ACC TOB Champions for like 5 straight years…in their group. While it is a huge honor and included a large number of schools, it is also relative to the contest, size of the band, etc.

I mean comon…your stats are good enough, you are probably into Uva and probably a few ivies as well, you should know this, be confident. If you are worried about your qualifications for Uva with those stats I should consider myself extremely lucky to have gotten in.

My counselor said that since there are so many TJ kids applying it’s a lot harder to get in. My unweighted GPA is only like 3.6 something. I know a lot of kids at school are more qualified than I am; that’s why I’m worried.

We were in USSBA 4A. Is it weird to just look up those guys and send them an email? Because I’m definitely doing marching band in college.
