Chances? (I know people hate these, sorry.)

I go to TJHSST, so I'm out of state. I'm going to be a senior this fall, and I am a Chinese girl.
4.032 weighted GPA
2310 (800 M, 800 CR, 710 W) SAT
800 Math II/740 Literature SAT IIs
7 APs by the time I graduate (Music Theory, BC Calculus, US History, Physics (Mechanics and E&M), Government, Statistics and Literature)
I am taking challenging courses such as Optics and Quantum Physics next year, so I'm hoping that makes up for my lack of APs.

I am a member of NHS and the Russian Honor Society.
I will have been a member of the state championship winning marching band for four years and I am a section leader.
I will have been a member of the world finalist drumline for three years.
I tutor underprivileged kids near the school.
I play in my church orchestra.

Does it help that I have a legacy? My dad and my great-granddad went to UMich.

There's this ridiculous thing called Family Connection that is linked to our Blackboard accounts and I saw it today and nearly died. It doesn't look like I can get into any college now... If my chances are awful at UMich, what other schools would you recommend?

Whatever, you knew you were going to get in before you posted this thread, and are really looking for assurance that you can call this your “safety” school.

/me throws a rock at you for wasting his time.

If you’re looking for other schools, I recommend HYPSM.

That is incredibly not true. Family Connection is all “everyone at your school has a 4.3 and you stink.” My GPA is almost .3 lower than everyone else’s at TJ, I am ACTUALLY worried.

What’s your unweighted GPA?

It’s 3.662.

Then I reiterate my statements in post #2. You’d definitely get into either LSA or Engineering.

your HS seems like super competitive(2 usamo winners ***? in 1 yr), you should be fine!

You’re in, don’t worry. I know plenty of people who got into Michigan with lower stats. Just make sure you apply early, my friend applied right before the deadline, and got denied because of rolling dates. Accepted to Harvard, denied by Michigan.

missed that 2400 by 90 points. Your going to have to explain that in one of your essays. And why didn’t you take more than 10 ap courses?

This is ridiculous. You’ll get in.

these kind of people make me want to strangle someone

The only time we dislike these posts is when they are used for resume brag posting…and it is soooo obvious that acceptance is emminent…also when folks refer to Michigan as their safety…it is a bit insulting to those who view Michigan as their #1…just check out Michigan acceptance stats before asking for Chance Me…you would have found out that you are safely in and above the range… Folks who fall into that questionable range should be posting…because their concerns are genuine. Just mho.

Okay, when did I ever say Michigan was my safety? This is the school I grew up hearing about. My dad REALLY wants me to go. You guys, I don’t think you understand how NoVA works… Everyone is super competitive about everything, and I’m at the lower end of it.

While your SAT score is great, GPA would probably be really be the only thing “on the low end”. If you really want to improve your chance why not try raising your GPA senior year first semster (high 3.7-3.8)? Also, UofM really does not consider legacy. Typically 7 AP’s is by far not considered “lacking”, but many of my fellow classmates and I have had 9-12 AP’s by graduation so i can see the competition there.

yeah you didn’t say it was your safety but thats not the point. littlefalls is correct, your thread is really just a thinly veiled plea for compliments and reassurances that your going to get in.

things like
“It doesn’t look like I can get into any college now…”

I mean really? people on CC frown upon these kind of chance threads.

Thanks collegebound …appreciate the backup…someone had to finally say it out loud…

wow, do you not realize the ridiculousness of your own high school?

Hell, I remember your high school. Half the kids at MIT RSI are from your high school because one of your science teachers used to be a director of the program…

hell, it makes Exeter look like a daycamp…

Exactly. My high school is ridiculous. Which means if I’m not at the top of my class, I’ve got no chance with good colleges. My counselor said that colleges look at TJ kids in comparison to OTHER TJ KIDS. Not the rest of the country or the rest of the applicant pool. I’m asking because I’m on the low end of my school. If you don’t understand how competitive TJ is, you wouldn’t understand why I’m asking.

lol, you serious? Did your counselor also forget to tell you that well over half of your senior class will go to schools comparable or better than Michigan?
