CHANCES!!! I really messed up...

Hey, heres how it goes. Im white, middle class family. I go to a public school, nothing special. Im looking for a big state college that is good in math/engineering.

SATI- 590CR 610M 570W (1770)
No SATII's
UW Gpa-3.70
W Gpa-4.45

EC's- Boy Scout for 13 years...soon to be Eagle Scout
Varsity Lacrosse, Captain
NHS
SGA-Junior class Treasurer
Peer Mediator
State Distinguished Scholar-honorable mention

Im looking at:

University of Maryland-College Park
University of Texas-Austin
University of Illinois-UC
Georgia Tech
University of Wisconsin-Madison
yeah, I know I can't get in..but UMich?

any feedback would be nice. Thanks!

The only place that I can forsee giving you any trouble is GA Tech. They are a reach with your stats. UMich will be a reach, but you never know. If you can get your SATS up a bit (620+ on all sections would be sufficient), you should be good, although GA Tech and UMich still might give you some trouble.

Unless you live in Texas, the Univeristy of Texas at Austin will be impossible with that combination of scores since they take only 5% of their students from OOS.

As far as Michigan, the GPA isn't that bad (a tiny bit low), but the test scores are killing you.

yeah...as long as you get your sat to 2000+...id say you are a match at most of those schools...and a slight reach at umich...

My friend got into GT and TX with those EXACT stats. Are you sure you're not my friend?

What state do youl ive in? That would kind of help when applying to state schools.

Also, what is your class rank?

And ... what type of engineering?

I live in Maryland and I'm 8th in my class...thanks for all of your input, I really appreciate it. The SAT's were a horrible test for me...

I think you are in at UMD, but the rest is really up in the air. Behind UMD I think U of Wisconsin is your 2nd best bet.

For UMich, retake your SAT's (or strongly consider taking the ACT - I am guessing you would do better on it), and apply as early as you possibly can. They are a rolling admissions school, and your changes are a LOT better earlier in the cycle.

Have you thought about Purdue or Ohio State?

haha..aight here's the deal. This isn't my real CC screen name...I just wanted to see how good you guys were at predicting chances to schools I already applied to/got accepted/rejected.

I was generous by 10 points on my SAT...my real SAT was around 1760. But everything else is truthful...you guys wanna see how you did? I will admit I threw in a couple of schools that I didnt apply to...but three of them you guys specifically pointed out, and I did apply to them.

UMaryland-deferred (dont ask me why, but they deferred pretty much every in-state person I know)
Georgia Tech- accepted
UTexas- accepted (It isn't really 5% oos is it? because I seriously doubt theyd accept a kid with SAT scores like me in that 5%)

runningcircles1 knows who I am..hahahahaha

That's odd about Maryland. Congrats on your acceptances - and where will you be attending?

Im going to GT...yea all of our gc's were freaking out when the letters were coming in about Maryland. idk whats up with them

Yeah, UMD just deferred EVERYONE this year. Its not very nice. They have been making it harder every year. The SAT score, i guess, wasn't enough. YOu got the spring admit thing right? Lots of people I know got that. I don't think it is that big of a deal because you just enter one semester later. Lots of people who were in that position went to PSU.
Texas is very grade oriented from what I can tell. I got into UMD and scholars but denied to Texas. I did apply to mccombs(which is much harder than the rest of texas) but I don't think I got into UT either. I had a 3.45UW 4.0W and a 1380. I guess UMD looks at SAT scores more than Texas does. Texas doesn't look at SAT scores at all for their business programs. Its GPA first for them. Funny how things work out. Congrats on GT, its a great school.
