So what do you think? Thanks

When did you apply, and is that your Umich gpa?

I'm a bit paranoid, and won't be applying 'til later this year. Junior at the moment. This was kind of a preemptive thing.
Don't know quite how to calculate the UMich GPA, sorry.

Your GPA and SAT are lower than the Michigan averages, so right off the bat, I'd say Michigan is a reach. Can you elaborate further on your GPA? Is it weighed or unweighed? Are you taking many APs? What's your class rank? If you can measure your Michigan GPA, it would help. Basically, only include ACADEMIC classes you took Sophomore and Junior years (Michigan does not look at Freshman year grades). By "academic", I mean Math, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Economics and Foreigh Languages. Classes like PhysEd, Religion, Computer Science, Music etc... aren't usually counted.

Once you have isolated the classes that do count, assign a 4.0 for all As (A+,A, and A-), a 3.0 for all Bs (B+, B and B-) and a 2.0 for all Cs (C+,C and C-). AP classes are weighed the same as regular classes, so don't worry about weighing.

Really? They don't count Frosh GPA? That's fantastic. Pulls it up to a 3.8 unweighted, 3.9ish weighted.

Plenty of APs. AP Eng 11/12, AP Euro/US/Econ, AP Spanish.

You are in good shape. Retake your SAT if you think you can raise your SAT by 20-30 points in each of the sections, especially M and CR (Michigan does not yet consider the W section of the SAT). As it is, if you can maintian your 3.8 unweighed GPA, I'd say Michigan is a match/slight reach. However, if you can raise your SAT M and CR by a combined 50 points, I'd say Michigan becomes a realistic match, especially if you apply by September.

Alexandre I could have sworn Michigan looked at writing, will they not be looking at it for next year as well?

As far as I know, Michigan still doesn't consider the W section. I have not idea when and if they will start looking at it.

Actually, the writing part was required for admission this year. This is a recent development that just happened this year.

A friend of mine could not have his app reviewed because he took the ACT without writing.
