ECs

Varsity Football, Varsity Track and Field, Spanish Club (representative), Spanish Honor Society, Literary Magazine (editor), Writing Club, Book club, Large amount of Community Service 100 hours by graduation, Honor Council, Take every AP English, Spanish and History courses open to me, on advanced/honors track for math and sciences. Also found out a couple of weeks ago that I'm getting a poem published in an anthology, planning on submitting more of my things. HS doesn't rank, but is very competitive in the state.

So what do you think? Thanks

Brought CR up to 690.

not a word in how many months?

My twin s and d are interested in Davidson and attended Junior Day in February. Have you looked at the Common Data Set information for Davidson? I believe it's available through their educational research section. This will give you a picture of the admitted class for either this ( 2007) or this past year.

Sorry I do not have much to offer, but we are taking a close look at Common Data Sets to get an idea of what chance we really have at the top LAC's.

Your credentials are definitely in range. You're not a slam-dunk, but I don't there is really any such thing - unless you can actually slam-dunk...only kidding...not really.

Some of the other factors: Sex? I guess your M since you played football. That helps. Geography? Looks like Georgia. That might cut the other way - probably lots of competition from GA. School? Any HS alums at DC?

The other factor - intangibles. Will you be able to present yourself through recs and essays as a "fit?" My sense is that matters a lot at DC.

Are you going to apply ED?

Good luck.

I kind of got the impression Davidson folowed the trend of being more difficult ED than regular, so I haven't been planning on it. Yeah, there is one or two of my HS alum there now or graduated this year.

Actually, Davidson accepts a higher percentage ED than RD. According to the 06-07 common data set, out of 357 ED applicants, they accepted 203. Overall, out of 3895 total applicants, they only accepted 1185. Do the math - it is very obvious that ED has a strong advantage at Davidson.

In all honesty, I don't think your chances are all that good. However, there is no sure way to know one way or the other. It would definitely be to your advantage to apply ED. Your gpa is pretty low, and your test scores are not that high by Davidson's standards. Your ECs are okay, but not great.

To increase chances ... apply ED. WRITE TREMENDOUS ESSAYS!!!!!! Get a great peer recommendation (find a friend who WRITES WELL). VISIT!!! There is absolutely no magic formula, so you definitely could be accepted. Do all you can to assure that they know you & love you.

Bringing the verbal up to 690 was very important. But of course there is no such thing as a sure thing. Also important is that your school is a top school and presumably a B there is not the same as at other places. The trend in your grades from freshman year to senior year could also effect your chances. I think your chances are better than 50 50 probably more like 65%. So yeah... make a really strong application and you should feel pretty confident.

Also brought math up to 680. So now it's a 1370.
