Chances? I'll Chance Back!

16 years old
Lives in CA
Senior this year coming up
Asian (Indian) (Second Generation)
Dad is an engineer in Silicon Valley, mom is in finance (Both college grads)

ACT - 33 (Retaking for a superscore)
SAT- 1990 (2080 superscored)

GPA- 3.19 UW/3.47 W
I’ve just found the high school learning environment to be really toxic and not conducive to my success. I excel better in a fast paced and in depth setting (AP classes). My GPA has been rising yearly as I take more AP classes, I just find myself not trying as much in classes that aren’t interesting to me.

AP Classes

World History (5)
Biology
Literature & Composition

US History

(Taking these next year)
Chemistry
Macroeconomics
Government
Calculus AB
Language & Composition
Microeconomics (?)
Physics 1 (Probably)

I’ve gotten A’s or B’s in every single AP class I’ve taken.
I’ve just had a lot of trouble with Spanish (It’s so difficult in CA), but I haven’t failed any classes.
I know I didn’t fail any AP tests, I’m predicting 4/5 for the tests I just took this year.

Cofounder of children’s tutoring organization at my local library that just got eligible for a Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Internship with Boeing/Algae Biomass Organization
Internship with Contec-Replico Corporation
Part time job @ my family’s business since freshmen year

I’m not really active in school clubs (besides speech and debate), but I’ve been committed to the three charities I volunteer/help run.

I’m looking at any colleges, preferably ones with direct programs for finance/business.
My intended major is going to be something like a finance major with a minor in accounting and maybe another major in political science (not sure).

Any other schools I should apply to?

Look into University of Waschington for business, their location is superb with many big companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Starbucks

DrDrizzy LA ==> UCLA

think of applying to legacy schools. I think you are a strong candidate. UT Austin has as fair admission process so you have a high chance of getting in. well, Rice is really fabulous too.

well, George Washington, too.

Texas resident

stellar applicant, opposite situation from mine though (good test scores, lowish gpa), i think you have a shot at any school on your list.

I think your ECS are great and your ACT, but gpa might bring you down

Lol you have a good chance at most of your schools, but idk about NYU and Emory. Those are your low reaches I would guess. Anyways, best of luck pal!

You have a great shot at most of the schools on your list. The only ones I would be concerned about are UVA, Illinois- Urbana/Champaign, and UC schools. Good luck!

I would say you have a good chance at most of these, NYU and USC I’m not sure. If you write a great essay however you have s good chance at all of them.

bump

Your GPA is weak but I think everything else about your application is very strong. If you write a compelling essay, and have strong recs, I think you have a decent shot at many of these schools. What is your UC GPA?

Your GPA is a little weak, but ACT is good. I don’t think a retake is necessary. You seem like a good candidate for all of your schools. USC (SoCal?), WUSTL, Notre Dame, and Georgetown are reaches for almost anyone.

I’ve classed a lot of these as low reaches, which means (in my view) approximately a 15% chance. You’ll almost definitely get into one of those schools. Good luck.

Great ECs and coursework, not sure about the GPA and SAT score, but ACT looks phenomenal.

Great ECs and courseload. Your SAT could be better, and I’d recommend taking SAT IIs. Your GPA could be a lot better, but as long as you do well senior year and show an upward trend you’re good.
Your ECs are definitely your strong point, and should provide good content for your essays. I’d focus on quality essays to try and make up for your GPA.
