I want to be a print journalist, also. Do you think if i stay on this path I'll have an above average shot? And any advice?

I really, really like UCLA.Will being from the east coast be an advantage or disadvantage?

I think it's still too early to be able to chance you (maybe some of the CC "veterans" can)... But as for your other question, being from the east coast is going to work against you because the UCs are public schools so they have an "obligation" to CA students (I think I read somewhere that UCLA is over 90% CA students).

actually i dont plan on majoring in journalism i'd like to major in possibly english or political science. and ucla does serve my interests...it has excellent academics, great location, and is a few thousand dollars cheaper than most private schools. thanks for the advice though.

yeah true but i kind of like that (believe it or not) because ill have to fight for the profs' attention which will prepare for the real world. :)
i've thought all of this through lol.

there's nothing wrong with staying in massachusetts. most of the schools im interested in are in massachusetts. but at the same time, i've lived here since i was born so i kind of want to go somewhere new for once.

you'll already have enough on your plate to "prepare you for the real world" and so you want to put yourself through something that's unnecessary? great.

no i meant more for my career as a journalist which is very competitive right now. is it just me, or do you guys really really not want me to apply to UCLA?

^ No one's discouraging you, we're just trying to be realistic... as an out-of-state resident you're going to have a much tougher time getting in, so you might want to explore other options just to be safe

well im not just gonna apply to ucla lol. im considering about a dozen other options. i understand you're trying to help but i really like ucla:D

my gpa is on a weird 4.5 scale and the grading system is weird. all my grades are above 90, but we have A-'s, A's and A+'s. i predict it to be about a 4.1 out of 4.5 uw and over 4.5 weighted. As for SAT's, i dont take them til next year but i usually test well on standardized tests.
