Chances in get in to Rutgers NB as Transfer

I am applying to Rutgers New Brunswick for the Fall 2009 semester as a transfer student. I currently go to MCCC. Last semester I got a 3.7 and this semester I'm looking at getting a 3.7-4.0. If I get a 4.0 it will raise my overall gpa of 3.83 but ill only have 19 credits complete. At the end of the spring semester ill have 34 credits. I've been out of high school for over 2 years so Rutgers doesn't even want to look at my SAT scores. So I am wondering if anybody has any clue of what my chances are of getting into Rutgers.

good think I don't use the same grammar as I did in the title of the topic.

*Chances of getting into Rutgers NB as a transfer student!

anybody have any ideas? any transfer students that got in? what did they get in with?

Last Spring I was in a similar situation, except I had a 2.93 GPA at Brookdale Community College and I still got into the NB SAS. I even had a 1.9 High School GPA. I was waitlisted for 2 weeks but eventually got in. People on these forums overrate Rutgers tremendously. If you are trying to get into one of the competitive schools WITHIN Rutgers, then you might have some trouble... however once you transfer into Rutgers and assuming you do well there, then you can apply to one of the schools.

The fact that I got into Rutgers and did squat in High School (almost didn't graduate due to so many missed days) (and most of community college) makes me unimpressed with the school. =P I turned myself around now and I am in the same situation as my friends who loaded themselves with classes in High School and developed wrinkles due to stress.

College is just a big business.

you have a good shot in getting in...your applying for school of arts and sciences right? you'll be in.

You should get in, but it would be much easier if you get your degree at MCCC. I also came to Rutgers from a CC and had a 3.7 GPA and got into SAS. SAS is almost a certain for you.

But....make sure you get your housing in early if you plan to live on campus, because Rutgers will be using a hotel for mainly transfer students and people who hand in their housing late. They already did it this semester with 300-400 students, mainly transfer, but I heard that they plan to continue using a hotel for housing next year as well with even more students. Rutgers is accepting more people because they are basically broke and need money, and they don't mind putting people in hotels off campus. Apparently it is a success for Rutgers but the students themsevles, most of them at least, were not too thrilled

thanks everyone. But things changed a little. I ended up not getting the grades expected (guess I did horrible on my finals), but I still ended up with reasonable grades. I got and A and 3 B+'s, which was extremely disappointing. My overall GPA is now a 3.59. And I have 19 credits. I am applying to the SAS school and the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. I'm hoping to get into the fall but I hear Rutgers is starting to get selective. I applied in the spring and got denied. Granted I only had 6 credits. In the letter they said they want to see more coursework. I'm worried that I wont get in for the fall and I fell like I am wasting my time at Mercer. I heard about the hotel situation as my girlfriend goes to Rutgers. She transferred in to Rutgers last semester but didn't get put into a hotel. The people that got put into hotels, throughout the semester got moved into a dorm as soon as one opened up. Must be stressful for those people, having to move around and know as soon as you get situated.

So I have a few questions to people who got in...

whazzup1230 and Hajduk: Did you have a degree from CC? Or did you leave before you graduated from there? If so, how many credits did you have when you got accepted?

and anybody else that has any input

I had around ~13 credits when I applied, however I didn't receive a decision until the middle of the summer. By the time I received a decision I had around 37 credits (18 credit semester and 2 summer classes) and I kept them up to date with transcripts.

JBO86, yeah I got a degree from CC, but there is some new law, called the Lampitt Law (spelling?) where you need a certain amount of courses from Sciences, Math, History, Humanities etc.. which Rutgers needs to approve.

So what happened to me is that I got my degree from CC with 61 credits, but my degress was not approved by the Lampitt Law because I didn't fufill the Humanities section which Rutgers wanted. Because of that they evaluate your courses one by one (If your degree passes the Lampitt Law you automatically get 60-62 credits, however many you have with your degree, and you have fulfilled all of the Rutgers requirements). Well, because my degree did not pass the law, they did not accept 8 of my credits from CC and I have to still take two Rutgers "core requirement" courses. Really for me not a huge concern, as I can make up those credits in summer courses or take more credits in the next few semesters, but I know of kids who lost 15-20 credits.

The thing is, so many New Jersey community colleges have not yet updated their course requirements which will fulfill the Lampitt Law. Also, I'm not sure if every college uses this law, because I applied to three other NJ schools and all of them took all my credits, it was only Rutgers which didn't

Should be fine. I applied last year for this semester and got in, although I was coming from another four year college (decided it wasn't for me after one year). I had a 3.7.

Ditto about the housing- Rutgers did manage to get kids out of there pretty quickly, and from the rumors I think the kids in the hotel got $15 a day or something. Not as bad as it sounds, besides the twenty minute ride to campus. It doesn't sound like they are planning to do away with the hotel next year though, so I'd follow the above posters advice and try and decide yes/no no more than two days after being accepted.

You're in the majority in that you're coming from a CC. Most of the transfers I know have come from CCs.

Also (and it seems like not many people mention it on here) if you do go you'll have to take a transfer class for one credit called "Students in Transition". It's pass/fail and pretty much a bunch of BS, but it does sort of ruin your schedule a bit.

i’ll probably have a 3.0 gpa total when i apply in the spring, 60 credits from cc and i will have a 3.85 gpa (4.0 for last 44 credits). Though i also have 30 credits 1.5 from a state school i went to before =/ hopefully rutgers sees the huge improvement

anyone wanna help me out? I am currently a freshmen at rutgers camden with 12 credits from fall 08 with 2.83 gpa from that semester, but this semester i’m taking 15 credits and should have above 3.5 gpa plus taking 2 summer courses most likely gonna get an A in each… applied to rutgers NB environmental biological sciences anyone kinda kno my chances?

donniepacks,

what exactly are you looking for help with? what is the atmosphere at Camden like? is it what many ppl make it out to be( i.e. dangerous)?

whether or not i get in to NB campus with the stats i gave about me…but camden is definitely not what people make it out to be…not dangerous whatsoever although i would never leave my car unlocked or let an ipod or phone be visible in my car…but all in all its a safe school but campus sucks no parties im a south jersey kid used to drinking a lot, used to a lot of parties and girls and NB satisfies those needs

i’m currently a freshman at NJCU in Jersey City which is not such a good school; however, i want to transfer to Rutgers NB for a variety of reasons. My Gpa is 3.88 currently but i only have 12 credits which i dont know if rutgers would accept all of them, but this spring semester im taking 15 credits which i hope they consider. I would like to know my chances to get in… or at least what i can do…oh i got denied before when i was in H.S i had a 2.9 - 3.0 gpa. I hope that rutgers sees my improvement in this semester; and accepts me in any of its schools. Please if anyone knows my chances and what can i do to get accepted let me know. Thanks

xmiradorx, this is a 2 year old post… I would post over in the new updated 2011 spring/fall transfers.
