Chances In-State for RD!

William and Mary is my dream school and I would love to get in.

White Male from Virginia

Political Science B.A.

Applying RD

GPA
3.94/4.0 U.W
4.36 W

Rank
2-3/217

ACT
29 (Definitely retaking, this will hurt my chances)

Enrolled in a Gifted Program, along with taking all APs and Honor classes.

During 10th grade year, there was a problem with our gifted teacher and she deliberately gave everyone in the class a b. This dropped me out of first in the ranking. The board of supervisors and school board are deliberating on whether everyone should be awarded and A or a B, so my GPA/Rank may fluctuate

Community Service
I have over 150 hours of total community service ranging from involvement in local workshops and the rec department.

I also had GREAT recs and solid essays.

I was wondering what my chances are of being admitted. Thank you for your replies.

Did you not take the SATs? Otherwise I think you have a solid shot.

I didn't submit my SAT scores because they were not as high as the ACT equivalent.

W&M says that either the ACT or SAT is acceptable; they have no preference as to which one to take.

Seems to me that you would be a good candidate, especially if you are from somewhere other than northern Virginia.

My school is exactly the opposite of what you would see in northern Virginia. =p I live in one of the smallest counties in Virginia. It's extremely rural.

How rigorous was your courseload? In other words, how many APs have you taken?

I think you have a really good chance, assuming you took the strongest courses that were offered at your HS

Depending how small, how rural, AP's aren't always an option. However, admissions takes the school and course load offered into account. Assuming you've taken the most rigorous course load available to you, you are fine. My daughter's school has limited number of AP courses. She took all courses offered and is enjoying her second year at W&M, with an exceptional GPA.

Thank you guys for your replies. =] I took the highest number of APs possible at my school (I took 2 last year and 4 this year) and my courseload is the most rigorous the high school offers.
