chances in...

Hi. My name is Farhan and I’m a high school student from Bangladesh. I have just entered my senior year in high school and I plan to enter college in Fall 07. I have included in this profile my SAT 1 and 2 scores, high school courses and scores in each subject, an estimated GPA and an estimated class rank (my school has neither GPAs nor a ranking system). I have also mentioned some of the notable extracurricular activities that I have taken part in during y junior year. Please tell me what chances I’ve got (if any) in the colleges or universities that have been mentioned in the list. I should also mention that I will be asking for financial aid from all the universities I will be applying to, so if any of these universities do not provide aid to internationals please tell me. I am also thinking of applying early to Princeton so as to increase my chances there. Thanks.

Colleges and/or Universities of choice:
Princeton University
Yale University
Duke University
Washington University in St. Louis
Brown University
Emory University
Williams College
Amherst College
Swarthmore College
Washington and Lee University
Grinnell College
Lafayette College

I also want to know if any of the above universities accept credit for IB higher level subjects. Thanks and sorry if I've made the posts too long!

With your scores, grades, and ECs, you have excellent chances at all of these schools. I believe all of these schools accept IB classes for college credit if you received the diploma. See, for example, Duke's website:

<a href="http://www.admissions.duke.edu/faq/index.asp?iQuestionID=476%20&iCategoryID=1%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.duke.edu/faq/index.asp?iQuestionID=476%20&iCategoryID=1</a></p>

The only two of these schools that don't offer much need-based financial aid that is free are "Duke", and "Washington and Lee". These places offer aid, but it's not so much scholarship and grant-based as loan-based.

Thanks for the info Calcruzer. I'd also appreciate it if you or anyone else who views this post could categorise the colleges or universities I have mentioned into reach, match and safety groups after having a look at my credentials. Thanks.

Sorry for posting so many times, but I'd like to know if anybody's heard of Dickinson College and whether it's any good. I've been receiving a lot of mail from this particular college lately, and they look kinda good. If anyone knows anything of particular importance about this college, please tell me. Thanks.

Sorry if I missed it, but what do you want to be after you graduate from university?

youll get into most of them; princeton, brown, yale, duke are impossible to predict. W&L, swarthmore, WUSTL good matches. lafayette, grinnell probably safeties.

I'm planning to major in Physics in undergrad and then I'll have to think of what I can do to stay above the breadline!

I'd like to emphasize on the fact that I will be relying a lot on financial aid. In fact I will have no choice but to forefeit my admission at any university if it does not meet all of my demonstrated financial need. I have financial constraints like most other international students. So when reviewing my profile, please consider my financial situation and categorise the universities accordingly.

Thanks again.

W&L offers approx 40 George Washington Honor Scholar merit scholarships in every class of approx 460 students -- regardless of financial need. Scholarships range from 1/2 tuition to full tuition/room/board. In addition, another 50-60 finalists who are not offered a GWHS usually receive some merit scholarship offer.

Thanks for the new information on WUSL. Could someone also help me out by telling me if these colleges/universities have good physics departments or not. It would also be helpful if someone could name me a few other places that I have missed which have good physics departments and also offer financial aid to internationals.

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions :)

I'm gonna boost this one up just in case anyone's missed it.
