Chances? (International)

GPA: Not really sure how GPA works, but the ACT decided I had an unweighted GPA of 3.92 based on what I entered.

ACT: 33 Composite
33 English
33 Mathematics
32 Reading
32 Science
30 English/Writing :(

First time taking ACT. No studying, was pleasantly surprised with my mark, but essay pulled me down, only got an 8, but i guess that's to be expected because I've never written what US students would call an essay before :/:/ Might do SATs later.

SAT Subject Tests

780 Chemistry
760 Maths II
740 Physics

Same deal here, will probably redo maths/phys if I have time.

Don't know my rank within the school, but I know I'm somewhere in the top 5% in the state at least. BTW, student in NSW, Australia.

ECs:

Play clarinet, guitar, drums and trumpet. (Have various accomplishments in all of these)
Also submitting a composition portfolio to the colleges which have an option to do that.
Previously a Staff sergeant in the Australian Army Cadet Corps.
2nd Dan black belt in Shotokan Karate.
Co-founded the philosophy club at my school.

Awards:
Was one of four students chosen to represent Australia at the Raffles International Science Camp in Singapore last year.
Bunch of other less impressive stuff

Dunno about essay yet.

Basically, I just want to know whether my marks are in range for the colleges I'm applying for, not so much whether I'll get in, I realise my other info is sorta sketchy.

Colleges:

Georgia Tech
MIT
Caltech
Stanford
Columbia

I'm applying for financial aid, not sure how that will affect it either.

Also, male, ethnicity is Indian subcontinent, so i guess asian :/

bump…

hMM… you are a strong candidate…
but applying for FA would definitley drop your chances,
you should look at liberal arts schools with good science programs like Swarthmore, Grinnell, Haverford, or Harvey Mudd…
you should also look for your safeties…

if you want FA for sure, you should be looking down for more… honestly.

Asian Male International applying for FA.

You need to have A LOT MORE COLLEGES on your list.

Guys, you have to consider that I’m an international student, so I’m not sure I really need “safeties” since I can just go to uni in Australia.

Also, apparently I can’t get institutional aid at GATech because I’m an international student? So does that mean that I should be looking more towards scholarships and such?

Sorry, double post

Georgia Tech is a public school so you’re not eligible for FA.

All are reaches for you.

Based on the people I know who got into Caltech, I would say that it’s really quite hard for you.

Alright, so does that mean the only way i can get funding for GATech is through scholarships?

Also, it’s okay if they’re all reaches, there’s no point me lowering my standards because I can get an equal or better education over here for much cheaper than the lesser colleges.

I know I can improve on all my marks, I didn’t really decide I wanted to go to the US until after I did the exams, but I probably only have the chance to do 2 more tests, because of time restraints. So I’m thinking study for SATs and do that, and then maybe redo one or two of my SAT IIs?
