Chances into Emory, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Columbia, and Boston University

I have some key schools in mind, but I'm feeling kinda down about some things. including my ACT score and one particular grade on my transcript Here are my grades on my transcript amongst other factors. What do you think my chances are?

So with all of these considered, what are my chances into these schools?

One C will not hurt. Overall GPA much more important. I personally think 3.8 is probably about the minimum for most top schools so your GPA is good and your rank is GREAT (that said, my D is applying with a lower GPA), 3.9 better and of course 4.0 is “all that”. What size is your school? (a rank of 1 out of 30 will not carry the same weight as a rank of 1 out of 500).

BUT…your ACT…umm…that’s really important and I’m afraid you have a really long way to go with that. Have you tried the SAT?

One C will hurt. It won’t KILL your chances but it does hurt them because everything below exceptional is a weakness when applying to schools like Stanford and Columbia. But as the above poster said, the thing that most skills your chances like that is the 23 ACT score, which is actually very close to the national average of ACT scores, I believe. That’s not good, and I would assume that the average ACT score for Stanford or Columbia is in the mid 30s, maybe 33 or 34. So your score needs quite a bit of work to get into any of those schools, really. Just my two cents.

The ACT is what is going to hurt your chances. Also, you haven’t taken many AP courses. Does your school offer many or are you limited in the amount you are allowed to take?

I’m sorry to say that you don’t have a shot at all in getting into Emory, Vanderbilt, Stanford, or Columbia with a 23 ACT score and only 1 AP class taken. And even BU is a big reach.

ehh, dude, I’d look into a different tier… the GPA is excellent, but it’s really not bogged down with AP’s, which these colleges really look into. The ACT is an absolute killer, I’m sorry to say… you really need to improve that score by a good 6-7 points in order to get yourself back in the ballgame

One C won’t kill you at all. the EC’s are standard, mediocre.

I’d look into some different schools, espec. w/ that ACT

Hope this helps!!

“Honors African American Literature - 96 A”

Are you African American? Are those honors classes the highest level available at your school?

If yes to both of those…aim for 31-33 on you ACT and you have an extremely high chance at all. If that range of ACT scores is unattainable, try SAT?

Do you have any leadership positions?

Good luck!

I would say no chance to any of these colleges. Look at state schools or other lower level schools. If you want name, then Northeastern is probably the best college you would have a shot at. sorry

I think you should look at a lower tier of schools. Either your school inflates grades heavily or you just have a lot of trouble with standardized, but that ACT and your lack of APs kills your chances at those schools
