I'm really at the end of my rope right now. I have really high hopes of getting into FIU but this waiting is driving me nuts.

I have not received a letter from FIU yet about whether or not I got accepted or not but I wanted to hear some of your opinions.

My GPA is around 4.8ish (last checked around January so its a rough estimate now) and I rank 52nd in class out of 200 something students.
My SAT scores a bit low however. I have a:
530 Reading
430 Math
400 Writing
I have mostly As and Bs and I have attended a magnet school (well, if it counts)

I majored in Architecture roughly for the first two years of high school and I switched over to medical for the last two years, specifically in medical laboratory assisting. I have my certificate saying a graduated from the medical academy. I also did some volunteering services and participated in outside events from school. I have taken at least one AP class for each year:

Freshman: AP Human
Sophomore: AP World
Junior: AP Lang & AP US History
Senior: AP Statistics

Some clubs I was in were: Drama, Japan Club, and Japanese National Honor Society (is this a club?). I know I haven't joined a lot of clubs because I was a bit financial unstable and I couldn't keep up with a lot of the volunteering hours offered since I had to look after my little brother after school.

How are my chances into getting FIU despite the low SAT scores?
Hypothetically speaking, if I called in the registrar office and got a reply to retake my SAT, is there any chance of me getting in?

Thank you for helping me!

If that is a 4.8 out of 5 then damn FIU will overlook your lowish sat scores for your grades. Plus I don’t think FIU is very hard to get into I don’t think you have anything to worry about expect that they didn’t respond by now you should call up the office of admissions I’d be surprised if you weren’t accepted.

Really? Man, I feel there’s a new hope coming for me! I really hope your words come true.

Well, it’s not really 4.8 out 5 per se since this one student at my school had a GPA of 6.7. At my school they add in AP and Honors credits and there’s Duel Enrollment too so the GPA could be really high if one gets all As like the person who had a 6.7.

Wow a 6.7 gpa I have never really heard a scale like that but since you said it was all A’s and B’s with AP and honors classes you should be in good shape. I looked up the sat averages and they were about a 1700 but that means that half of the admitted students scored below that. Your reading score is in average but your math is about 70 points lower. Luckily writing scores don’t count at most colleges so that should help you. But I got into UMaryland cp this year with a 1770 sat while their average this year was slightly above a 2000 so anything is possible.

Hey, thanks bud! I see a new beacon of light now :)

You should definitely call them to see where your admission decision is and also I just wanted to make sure that you were already accepted at other colleges so you have options just in case, this is your senior year right?

I recently just graduated. I applied to another college but they flat out denied me. This why I had this bad feeling that I wouldn’t be accepted into FIU either

Wait so you only applied to two schools? That’s very risky lol so if you don’t get into FIU are you going to community college?

lol We don’t really have the money to apply to all those schools…so I kinda took my chances. Not much of a gambler am I?

Either FIU or CC, either that or be a bum But yes, I have CC as a back-up

Well keep me updated on FIU I really hope that you are accepted.

Well it turned out I got deferred…what are the steps from there? :c

I go to FIU now…and my gap was a 3.7 when applying and a 1510 and I was accepted as a pre-Nursing major :)
