In short, my senior schedule will not fit physics as I am taking AP Bio. I know its not a requirement to take high school physics for Uconn unless applying for nursing ad engineering, but I was wondering whether it will inhibit my admission in anyway?
GPA: 4.2 weighted
SAT: 1760 (1260 for the new one)
Have taken: AP U.S. Hist, AP Studio art, AP Language
Will be taking: AP Lit and AP Bio
300+ hours of community service
National Honor Society
3 Leadership roles
I have or will complete the classes that Uconn does say is required for admission, however I know everybody recommends to take all sciences, hence my fear of rejection by not taking physics.
Your stats are similar to my daughter’s. She did not take physics, but rather bio, Chem, AP bio and AP Chem…as her major required bio and chem. She’s about to start her sophomore year.
You shouldn’t worry about not taking physics. Most colleges want to see that you’re taking 4 years of each core subject so because you are still taking a science class you’ll be fine. The only thing that you might need to worry about is your SAT score. It’s below average. I would take it once more and try to raise it however your GPA is really good so that might balance it out.
I had very similar stats as you (similar GPA, slightly lower SAT’s) and did not take physics in high school. I’m a senior now so it was slightly less competitive but I think you’re fine.
Stats are basically the same as my daughters. She’s a freshman Physiology and Neurobiology major. If you did well in Chemistry you should be fine. SAT’s like her are at the low end but she’s doing well. That being said, the academic reputation of the school has improved, admissions are getting increasingly competitive, get ready to work your butt off.
