Hello, i am an african american who wants to study medicine. I want to apply to these schools.
Johns Hopkins University
Tulane
Georgetown University
Drexel

here are my stats:

2.65 UW, 2.7 W
SAT: 1230
ACT: 19
AP tests: I took only one, APUSH, I got a 2

I play football, track, basketball, soccer, all varsity
I'm part of the spanish club

Please chance me, I hope I can get in.

I can’t really see you getting into any of those, except Drexel, and that is still a bit of a reach. But good luck nonetheless.

Basically what OP said, Drexel is a reach, the rest are extremely unrealistic.

My guidance counselor said if I impoved my GPA a bit then I had a chance, is she lying to me?

What year are you? You can do the math to figure out just how much you could improve your GPA given the time you have left. But yeah, I think she is giving you false hopes about those particular schools.

The good thing is, you don’t need to go to a leading university for undergrad if you want to go to medical school. You can go to a small college or average state school and get in, as long as you have the grades.

You might also consider doing two years of community college and then transfer to a 4-year institution. Good luck.

Your GC is not necessarily lying to you, several people have come onto CC with stories of GCs who are just too busy/uniformed and give bad advice. Realistically even with improvements it is just not going to happen. Based on your stats I assume you are at least a junior, which means there is not nearly enough time to improve your stats as much as you need to.
