Chances into NYU Stern ED

Ok so I’ve decided that NYU stern is my top college choice for its location and ability to open many doors in the future. As a result, I will apply early decision to this school. I’m worried about my GPA and my pretty much complete lack of business internships and ECs. I was a very science oriented kid but I finally finished with business. Will these science oriented ECs hurt me?

bump

Current Princeton student here with several friends at NYU stern.

Science oriented ECs won’t hurt you but they could detract from your final business focus. Alternatively you could position yourself as a science-y business applicant IF your business activities are somewhat related to science.

Seems like your stats academic wise will be fine. It’s really about

  1. How you craft your persona: What awards are you going to focus on? What essays are you going to write? What extracurriculars are you going to focus on?
  2. Essay writing: How you write your essay will be important. Character + interests will be conveyed here to distinguish you from the countless applicants who have similar academic stats & maybe even activities.

I think Stern would find you a more interesting applicant if you could build a science business bent rather than just straight up business (since that’s everyone). The more niche you are the better.

Feel free to message me for more clarification & help on these points.

Your stats are competitive enough but that is not good enough anymore. It has gotten incredibly competitive in recent years to gain admission to Stern undergrad. The poster above me nailed it, it’s about the story you tell.
