I want to know if I have the chances into these universities and do I even bother applying to MIT or Univeristy of Chicago?
My son is currently a freshman at UIUC majoring in Aerospace.
His high school grades, sat scores, AP stats are similar to yours. Also played soccer.
Your volunteer hours/club involvement exceed his.
In my humble opinion MIT and Univ of Chicago might be slight stretches…but you should apply.
(Univ of Chicago for engineering doesn’t make sense)
He chose not to attend college in California, wanted an experience outside of home state.
Outside of CA he got into Univ of Michigan, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Colorado school of Mines…and got scholarships at a couple of these institutions.
But chose UIUC. Loved the campus, the students, the faculty and the internship and study abroad opportunities.
Initially I couldn’t believe he was headed to midwest but have to admit I prefer the midwest campus culture over that of California. And I’m a native Californian and graduate of a UC.
Added benefit: we now visit Chicago and love it.
You should definitely apply to MIT. You should get into UIUC without any problem, i don’t see any reason why they would reject you when i compare their admission stats and yours.
